McGlynnEnter's Full Review: Sony Net MD Walkman MZ-N505 Personal MiniDisc Play...
If you are considering buying a new portable listening device – specifically a MiniDisc player – start looking at the Sony NetMD MZ-N505. It is an excellent buy for consumers because it is affordable and it follows Sony’s reputable quality specifications. The new design of the player is very sleek and chic, making it an immediate attraction to any observers.
The MiniDisc format is highly recommended by experts because of its obvious advantages over compact discs. MiniDiscs are much more compact (only a few inches) and they are in a floppy disk-like format in order to prevent the data from being distorted. The discs are very inexpensive, running about $2 or less apiece, and one can record and re-record onto them from a PC. The main advantage that many consumers go for about the MiniDiscs is the capability to store much more information on one versus the CD.
Sony has developed a technology allowing their players to hold even more information on them than previous models and brands, so you can enjoy more music on less disc space. There are three recording modes with this MiniDisc model, all with great sound quality. LP 4, LP 2 and Stereo are the three selections one can make from when choosing to put songs onto MiniDiscs. LP 4 will allow the user to put four or more 80 minute CD’s onto one MiniDisc. This means that you have the capability of having 320 minutes for only $2!
MiniDiscs are designed very similar to CD-RW’s in the sense that they can store information and re-record onto discs. This means that if you record a group of songs onto a MiniDisc and decide later that you want to put a different group of songs in its place, you can simply delete the old selection and copy the new selection on the disc.
Sony includes a CD-ROM with a program to load onto your home PC so that you can connect your MiniDisc player with your computer. You can then directly burn MP3’s, music CD’s and other music files onto your MiniDisc at 32x speed. The speed in this particular Sony model is efficient compared to previous versions because they took much longer to burn songs onto the discs. The program is a bit difficult to master at first, but after some work you become accustomed to it.
Overall, this Sony MiniDisc player is an excellent buy and I would highly recommend it. I know that I surely loved it and I hope that you do too. This player is available at many electronics stores in your area or online.
