Pros: Great looks, sound, quality, navigation and battery life.
Cons: Software interface is seriously lacking in quality for a device which is useless without it.
As with most Sony products you would expect a stylish high quality product to grace your palms, and I agree with most other reviewers that this is no exception. It looks great, sounds great, and is surprisingly easy to navigate and use. The radio doesn't possess fantastic reception but it is more than adequate for most everyday situations.
Unfortunately that is where my praise for Sony ends. A prerequisite for all MP3 players is physically transferring music onto the device and Sony have continued with their long line of below par software.
Whilst their other products (cameras/PSP/phones/etc) allow you to at least bypass their software in most instances, it can not be avoided here. The CONNECT software is incredibly slow, very cumbersome and has extremely limited functionality. A normal task can take you significantly more time than it should (you can't change multiple song properties in one go. It's one by one here.) Heaven help you if you want to move the location of your music collection, or select multiple folders for inclusion in the library as it just doesn't allow for it. Add to this the occasional crashes and freezes, it really is an area which Sony need to address with urgency.
Unsurprisingly, the ease for which you can purchase music through Sony's online store is fantastic. We know where their budget has gone then!
