Pros: Amazingly innovative design, Great remote control signal, mp3/cdr/rw support
Cons: Disc memory is a sham. slight pause in some layer changes. Boring Faceplates included
The Bottom Line: I certainly recommend it! From a design perspective, it's the Macintosh of the DVD world.

| thunt's Full Review: Sony DVP-PQ1 Portable DVD Player without Screen |
This DVD player is Cute as a button. Sony has proven to me that it can think a little better than the rectangular box sitting on top of the television.
This DVD player offers the basic output options of digital audio, composite out, RCA audio, and S-Video.
What it doesn't offer you is a headphone jack, a component video, or optical out, but who cares. For only $150 bucks, I would not expect them on a DVD player, if I needed those features, I would have bought a more expensive product, where hopefully more money would be spent on those parts. I would rather have them left out than a shoddy job with a ton of features.
It's startlingly small, smaller than I thought from websites I've seen.
I've not opened the faceplate compartment, as the really interesting faceplate I've seen, the mother of pearl deal, is not included. Which was one the reasons I wanted to buy it, but I can deal, I'm sure to find something cool to place in there (certainly not the MIB 2 Faceplate).
Not a bad user interface, the lack of a display on the unit it's self takes getting some getting used to, but I caught on quickly. The Start screen (before the DVD loads) is pleasant, a nice move from my older, if fitful, Sony DVP-S560D.
Design, Design, Design. This is a DVD must for people who don't have A/V racks and want an unusual element in your television entertainment area. It's not close to being a bad DVD player, it has only one quirk that I know of, Hardly enough to be conclusive, but I've noticed it a couple times, where when changing layers, it has a slight pause, its barely noticeable, one of those things where by the time you think about it it's already moving ahead again.
There is a handle on this product, which is cool considering the size, it makes one want to use it in a more portable way.
I’ll certainly will be back if I have any problems.
