When my husband’s birthday came in July I wondered what I would get him. The problem was that I had just given birth less than 2 weeks before, so time was definitely not on my side. I normally would spend days looking for the prefect gift and the matching wrapping paper, not to mention the absolute perfect card. But this year this would not be the case. My husband hates birthdays, at least his that is. So when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday his answer was nothing, I don’t need anything. This is a complete opposite answer had the question been asked of me. I usually provide my husband with a list, along with where he can purchase the item for the best possible price; hence that is beside the point. With no idea in mind, I rushed to the closest mall the day before his birthday. I roamed endlessly in each store totally baffled, until I got the idea to purchase an ice cream maker. He had always said that he wanted one, but I never really took him seriously, until that desperate day.
The biggest problem I faced was, that I knew nothing about ice cream makers, which meant I did not know which brand was better than the other. At that particular mall I was at, there were only 2 department stores. I went to both, and both stores only carried the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker. So for this reason I did not have a choice, I either buy the Cuisinart make or nothing. I opted to go with Cuisinart, since they do have a good reputation. It was not until I got home, turned on my computer, logged on to Epinions and realized that the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker had been recommended over 80% of the time.
~Features~
What I liked most about this particular ice cream maker was that it is fully automatic. It does all the work for you, very quickly. It makes up to 1 ½ Quarts, and it does not take more than 20 minutes. Since my husband is always the one to make the ice cream, I usually clean up; therefore I know that the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker is extremely easy to clean up. Because it comes with an ingredient spout, which is used to add any additional ingredients such as chocolate chips or nuts, you do not need to interrupt the freezing cycle, and it makes less of a mess because of it. It also contains a heavy duty motor, that is equipped to make the ice cream, but what I like most about it is that it is not very noisy and loud. What I did not want in an ice cream maker, was having to use salt or ice, and with the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker it is not needed as is the manual churning, everything is automatic, which is GREAT!!!
~Preparation~
One thing that is extremely important to remember is that the freezer bowl that holds the ice cream once made, must always be completely frozen before you begin the recipe. Because it takes so long to freeze, the best thing to do is to always leave the bowl in the freezer. Even as we speak the bowl is ion the freezer, even though my husband has no intention on making ice cream any time soon, but if he were at least he would be prepared.
Another added bonus is how quickly everything is done. For example frozen drinks or desserts can be done in 20-30 minutes. The machine comes with a booklet filled with recipes. We have already tried 2 of them, and they were both very delicious. I have watched my husband make numerous recipes and all of them seem to be easy to make.
~Bonus~
What I love about the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker is that the recipes use pure, fresh, ingredients, which means low fat. And at least you know what you are eating, which is great. Also Cuisinart offers a 3-year limited Warranty.
~Conclusion~
Highly recommended for the taste and the price. The only that worries me is, now that I have bought my husband an appliance for his birthday does it make it alright for him to buy me a vacuum for my birthday?
