| springro's Full Review: Sony RM-AV3000 LCD Touchscreen Remote Control |
Have you spent a lot of time and money setting on your home theatre/video system. Do you have great sound system that no one else in your house can use? Do you often hear I cant turn on the damn T.V. from someone you love?
If you answered any of these questions, then the SONY RM-AV 3000 is for you. This remote does it all. It can control up to 16 devices, really learns remote codes from other remotes, and supports macros. With the simple touch of one button you can:
Turn on the monitor (TV)
Set it to the correct input
Turn on an amplifier
Set it to the correct input
Turn on the satellite receiver
and watch TV. Even then most technophobic person will be able to use your
system. While this may not necessarily be a good thing, it will certainly stop complaints from the family members who are intimidated by technology.
Before you dive into to audio-visual euphoria, you should know some of the sticking points.
The RM-AV is not perfect.
-Although the touch-screen is big, it is still not big enough for those of us with large fingers.
-It easily shows dirt and fingerprints.
-If you do not have SONY equipment, it does not support the separate Power-on command
-The manual is one of the worst ever written, and Ive looked at many manuals. The wording is simply cumbersome in many places and import facts are hidden in the notes!
The plusses far out way the minuses of this device!
-It really controls everything that uses standard IR codes and it really learns codes from other remotes.
-Once programmed, there is no need to have a remote parking lot in your living room.
-This one remote really controls everything.
-Depending on how long you press a particular button either a device switch or marco is sent.
For example, quickly press the TV button the the remote is ready to take command of the TV. Press and hold the TV button or 2 seconds, it will turn on the TV and set all inputs correctly on all devices.
-You can use the remote timer to turn the system on and off, and more importantly, allows you to once again program your VCR to record while youre away, because it can turn on the satellite receiver (or digital cable receiver) on its own!
The RM-AV3000 lists for $199, but can easily be found on-line for about $115 (inclusive of tax and shipping). Although at first glance it may seem high for a remote, it is well worth the investment. It is a GREAT device.
