| dugemac's Full Review: Sony STR-DB1070 6.1 Channels Receiver |
I just bought my new Sony today, so i haven't had much time to play with it. I had a Sony str-de825, but I had to part with it. The DB1070 is already a great purchase on my part. It shares parts from the top end ES models, so is got great quality. It's got 100X6 power and enough rear hook-ups to keep me happy for awhile. I like that many of the buttons are hidden behind a fold-down panel in the front, and the rotary dial to change inputs. I bought it almost on a whim mainly because of the price. It was an "open box" so they took 25% of the price. I paid $434 for it...Sony has it listed for $1000! Mine is dual voltage, and i guess the dual voltage ones don't come with component video inputs, but the normal one has 2.
Update: Finally got around to updating this...This receiver is well worth your attention if you are looking to buy or upgrade your Home theatre system. It's loaded with features, 2nd room audio, 1 front A/V input, many different sound fields to suit many tastes, on screen menus, and enough power to make your house a dance club, or movie theatre, just to name a few.
Second room audio is a nice feature. I have my Bose 3-2-1 hooked up as the second room receiver so i can listen to my multi-disc CD player, or MP3's in my bedroom. It's easy to connect and easy to access via the front panel or remote control. Unfortunately, I must go to my living room to search cd's or what not as the remote control is IR and not RF.
the cons of this receiver aren't significant enough in my opinion to refuse to buy it, but if you have a lot of components, this may not be a wise choice. As I said above it's not THX certified (which not many Sony's are), only 3 digital optical ins, and only one digital coax in.
The 2nd room feature is great, but it's only audio, and there is no 3rd room. No A B speaker selection, which means you can one have 1 set of front speakers connected at a time. I must admit that i thought it would have taken me many years to acquire enough components to fill the back, but after 10 months, it's almost there...In case you are wondering, i have a VCR, DVD, XboX, PS2, TV, CD player, and MP3 player, and my computer inputed into it. I'm out of digital in's and video on the back.
In conclusion, I would recommend this to a friend that is just starting a Home theatre system or what's to upgrade to 6.1. Me, myself, i am now looking to upgrade to the Denon 5803 or Sony DA7es...
