| cruzeiro1's Full Review: Sony SVR-2000 (27.2 GB) 30-Hours Video Recorder |
Before buying a TiVo unit, my television viewing was an unorganized mess. My wife and I both work so we relied on the VCR to record our shows. This leads to inevitable problems of scores of unlabeled VHS tapes lying around (why waste a label when you might copy over the show if you don't like it!), not to mention problems in recording when the network changes it's time slots or the power goes out and wipes out your VCR's program memory.
I had seen the TiVo commercial and read the great reviews on this site and decided to take the plunge. I went to Circuit City and wanted the Philips 20 hour recorder. To my amazement, they were sold out (this doesn't surprise me now that I know how great they are!) so I opted to buy the Sony SVR-2000 30 hour recorder. I'm somewhat technologically inclined, so hookup was a breeze. Once the unit had been set up (very simple process) and downloaded the program guide (even more simple), we were ready to join the hordes of TiVo faithful.
The first thing I tried was the pause function. Instantly a chorus of angels sang Beethoven's Ode to Joy in my head as I imagined to incredible usefulness of this feature! Not only would my bladder be grateful, but I could watch TV MY way; when I wanted and how I wanted.
We set up the Season Passes for our favorite shows and browsed through the programming for the next few days. Later that day I canceled my subscription to TV Guide. Who needs it when TiVo does it for you! Since we've had the machine, life has truly been better. Now, I'm not the kind of person that sits in front of the TV all day, but I do have my favorite shows. Now I can watch them all at my convenience. The TiVo even suggests shows that it think I might like to see!
The $250 lifetime service fee, in my opinion, is totally worth it. The ability to set up Season Passes is pure genius. I'll never miss another episode of the Simpsons again! TiVo is even smart enough to detect when the network changes the lineups and adjust my programming accordingly.
In conclusion, TiVo has truly changed my life for the better. It's a little less complicated, a little more organized and a lot more fun.
