The FX series from Sony offers a compact unit with a reasonable bundle of software. The unit operates as one would expect with the exception of a faulty modem, rattling keyboard and sometimes excessive CPU fan noise - even when idling.
If you are a computer whiz you should be able to handle this machine. If not - forget it! Sony support is terrible.
Be careful of the warranty it is valid ONLY in the region where purchased and is limited to 12 months. Rediculous for a mobile device and incomparable with other major manufacturers.
The modem will only connect at around 30K independent of the ISP and line quality. This can be improved by not running the unit on the mains power pack but on batteries. It appears that the 240v power pack introduces 50hz on the telephone line.
Sony have been aware of this for months - this is model specific and not a unit defect. As yet they have no solution. Sony do also not consider this a major performence limitation and have a very poor support and consideration of customers. This issue will result in legal action as negotiations with Sony result in either a 'fob off' or plain ignoring of communications.
Otherwise a pleasant machine to use.
