| xploration's Full Review: Sony VAIO FX340 PC Notebook |
I have had the VIAO FX340 for six months now, and have been very pleased with the performance and features of this notebook. The single distinguishing feature of the FX series is all the features that you get for a very low price. An Intel Pentium III 900 Mhz (which is more than enough for my everyday computing needs), 128 MB RAM (expandable to 512 MB), 14.1'' screen, CD-RW/DVD drive, and a roomy 15 GB hard-drive - all for under $1,400!!
Some of the proprietary Sony software on the machine is off mark - such as Sonicstage (music software to burn CDs, mix music) which makes mp3s sounds horrible and is difficult to use. Just get MusicMatch's JukeBox - only $25 and works great. Also, my machine only came with Microsoft Word - so if you need Excel and Powerpoint (which I did) you will end up spending extra cash. But apart from these minor software glitches, it is a GREAT machine overall and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
