theuerkorn's Full Review: Sony VGP-PRFS1 Port Replicator for VAIO FS Series
Laptops are great for changing locations and even on the go. Once placed on the desktop though, it's a hassle to hook up periphery and the power cord every time you place it there; and of course the same in reverse when you take it on the next trip. This is where a docking station or port replicator helps out.
IN A NUTSHELL
This port replicator (a.k.a. docking station) is heavy enough for a secure position on the desk. Quality is good and the design okay. Insertion and removal of the laptop is very easy and reliable.
Cost is the only thing that may hold many Vaio owners back from buying a docking station. Roughly $300 in extra cost is not cheap. However, it may be worth the convenience when moving the laptop often between home or office and whatever destination else you take it to. (Not having to hook up printer, power and other peripherals may be well worth the money to some users.)
DETAILS
Connectivity: The in- and outputs in the port replicator are standard fare with 2 USB2.0 ports, 1 monitor (VGA), DC input, RJ-45 Ethernet, printer (parallel). The power plug feeds the Vaio through the common connector at the bottom of the laptop, as do all other external ports connect to the laptop the same way. Don't be confused by the port marked "Printer", if you're connecting your printer via USB it's still one of the two USB ports. Speaking of USB, 2 of the 3 ports in the Sony Vaio FS640W remain accessible. One USB, the video output, power input and the network jack are covered up and the functionality only available via equivalent ports in the replicator.

Ergonomics: Inserting the laptop is easy and doesn't require much fumbling other than engaging the hooks (easy) and simply tilt the computer into place. Just make sure to open the sliding door that covers the universal connector on the bottom of your Vaio. While the convenience is expected, I was also hoping to fix an annoying characteristics of the Sony Vaio FS640W which otherwise tilts during typing. The port replicator holds the laptop secure in a tilted position, but only partially eliminates the pivoting problem as the front is actually slightly lifted off the table (with the screen in a usable position).

Quality: The device feels sturdy and the 6 elastomer feet ensure a secure position on the desk. Overall design may be relatively bland, but the build quality is very good. Overall fit is relativ, and the mentioned tilting may be a result of the compromise to fit most Vaio laptops. On the other hand, one could also interpret that as a fit problem.

In the box: There is only one thing in the box and that's the docking station or port replicator. So if you want to avoid the switching game with your power supply, you would have to buy a spare psu ($99). Be aware that you need a 19V PSU for the Vaio FS, which is different from the typical 16V. There is no clear description pointing out the need for an additional power supply. Hence, be aware that this port replicator (as most others) doesn't come with a power supply and for best convenience that translates into additional spending.
Rating: ***--
Cost: At $200 this is a significant percentage of most Vaio computer prices and adding the $99 power supply even more so. This makes it clear that this is mostly for businesses and enthusiasts. The price may be in line with similar devices of other manufacturers, but it's on the high side nevertheless.
