| LILvoyce's Full Review: South Beach Diet Caramel Peanut Crisp Meal Replace... |
Due to doctors orders, and the fact that I have had Gastric Bypass surgery, I am always looking for flavorful ways to boost my protein count. My choices must be low in sugar, high in protein, and low in carbs. Tasty would be an added plus.
I went to the health food bar section of Walmart and the South Beach Diet Caramel Peanut Crisp Meal Replacement Bar happened to catch my eye. It reminded me of a cereal bar, and I thought I would give them a try. I found them on sale for around $1.14 a bar.
Taste
I opened the plastic foil packet and it reveal what looks like a rice cereal bar, that has been dipped along it's bottom with a coating of peanut butter and caramel mixed. It smelled sweet, and a bit like maple syrup. How did it tasted?
I took a small bite. The crispy brown bits are a lot harder than a cereal bar texture. Still I was not disappointed. The bottom coating, that was suppose to taste like caramel, really only had a hint of a caramel taste. I am wondering if that is where they hide all the protein. The caramel had just a hint of a weird after taste. I know I am tasting maple syrup somewhere.
Anyway, the more you chew, the less sweet this bar is. The first initial bites are fine, then it starts to grow old. I can sense a slight grit then. Overall, I can't really complain. This bar really taste good compared to the many I have tried. If your looking for something overly sweet, this is not the bar for you. If I could change this bar, I would take off that caramel topping, and leave the bar just as it is.
I will eat one of these as a meal replacement for both lunch and breakfast. I eat half for lunch, and half for breakfast.
This product is low in sugar, and does not contain that weird artificial sugar flavor.

Other Information
Please check this product for Allergy information. "Manufactured on equipment that processes tree nuts, sesame seeds, eggs and wheat." My big thing is soy. I did not notice that it contained soy. I really love these bars, but will not consume them to often because I am a thyroid cancer survivor. We are suppose to limit our soy products.

Also, while looking at this product I noticed that it a choice from the South Beach Diet's Phases 2&3. I am not on that diet so I can't tell you what that means but thought I would include it in my review anyway.
Overall
This is a tasty little bar, packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. A meal replacement at 210 calories per bar. They seem to be reasonable in cost. If you don't have food allergies mentioned it is worth a look into, especially if you are trying to lose weight.
