Like some of you, I was looking for a lower cost LCD option. I knew I would have to sacrifice some picture quality if I wasn't willing to pay $1500+ for the major name brands. I originally saw the Soyo brand on eBay and then searched the web extensively for specs, reviews, etc and thought that i had found the answer. This TV is HORRIBLE! For a casual viewer it may seem great (hence the countless positive reviews I read), but going from a Sony XBR (KV-34XBR910) I was honestly shocked at the quality drop-off. Some of my major issues:
HD Picture quality: Using component cables the HD picture was nothing less than unwatchable. Everything seems to have this bright white glow around it. Switching to the HDMI cable helped, no more glow, but still not what I expected from this TV
Audio: This is really my biggest issue with the TV. I never thought about how important the audio on a TV can be. It's not that it doesn't sound good because it's not like I'm trying to get a home theater sound from it, but the audio fluctuates constantly. I literally have to watch TV with remote in hand and adjust volume continuously. Apparently this TV does not have some automatic audio leveler that even basic $150 19" tube style TV's have.
The bottom line is...if you are not an HDTV enthusiast and are looking for this type of TV then you can save money with this option. The standard digital cable picture actually looks very good. DO NOT underestimate what I said about the volume, it's enough to drive you mad.
