User Rating: Excellent
Pros:Colorful and engaging toy for baby, good value for the price
Cons:No volume control for the music
The Bottom Line: This toy is an excellent way to keep the baby busy, as well as enabling him to practice those manual dexterity skills, all for a very reasonable price.
As I was shopping for some baby necessities at our local baby store, this toy caught my eye. And, boy, am I glad that it did! Knowing that my baby loves lights and music (like many babies), I was sure that this was a toy that he would enjoy. I had no idea that it was going to become "the favorite" toy.

The Sparkling Symphony Stacker is approximately 7-1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide at the base. The stacking part consists of a white plastic base with a rounded bottom and a white pole for the stars to be places. The pole also has 4 clear areas where lights are located. There are four star shaped rings with holes in them that can be stacked on the pole. The stars are about an inch tall and range from approximately 5 inches wide to 3-1/2 inches. They are also of varied colors, the widest being blue, then green, then red, then orange. The red and blue stars also have some glitter on them. The pole is capped off with a yellow ball shaped smiley face that fits right onto the pole.
HOW IT WORKS:
When you remove the smiley face cap, you see that there are small buttons on the pole. One button sits right on top of the pole and one button sits on the side of the pole at the top. Those buttons are what trigger the music. The button on top triggers the symphony music -- either by pushing down on it with your hand/finger or by pushing down on the smiley face when it is on the pole. The stacker has 3 different songs that it plays in rotation when that button is triggered. The button on the side plays a single musical tone. That button is triggered either by the stars being pulled off or placed on the stacker, or again by your finger/hand, if you were to push on it. The lights on the pole light up with the music -- the lights go in time with the songs, and light up when the tone is played. The stacker is powered by 3 AA batteries. The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the base and has a screw on it to keep children from being able to get to the batteries.
The "expert" (my 7 month old) loves this toy. So much so that he lunges for it when he sees it. The rounded base makes it wobble, so it doesn't fall right over when he hits at it. He loves to pull the smiley face off and maneuver it in his hands and throw it. He can pull the stacking stars off, but has not mastered putting them back on yet (but, I'm sure he will). He will grab the whole stacker and turn it upside down to dump all the stars off. He throws the stars around and bangs them on the floor and the table and against each other. The toy has been very durable -- taking all that abuse without any difficulty. The plastic pieces are also very easy to clean. He loves to watch the lights light up and listen to the music.
