audio_man01's Full Review: Speck Products Speck Active Sport Armband Arm Band...
It didn't take long after my Sansa 280R purchase to look around for a suitable way to jog/workout with the Sansa.
I couldn't find this product locally, so I opted to purchase it directly from the manufacturer's website. Arrival time to the East Coast was right at a week.
Clearly, this product was well thought out.
1)The mesh material breathes so perspiration isn't an issue.
2)The interior pouch for money/key/credit card is a great idea.
3)Velcro is located along the entire length of the strap and consequently this armband should be capable of fitting anyone from Twiggy to someone with an arm circumference of about 15-16". Given the width of the strap (2"), I find that on my arm, this armband fits best between my bicep and shoulder. Note - the manufacturer indicates a diameter of 18" ... my armband measures at best 16".
4)The Sansa fits SNUGLY in a cushioned pouch and is partially protected from sweat/rain/scratches with a plastic window that covers the Sansa display. The power button and scroll wheel, along with FF/REW/Pause are accessible
5)The Armband uses highly reflective material which could save your life when running at dusk.
Negative issues:
1) The armband is fairly heavy. I don't have a scale that can weigh it, but it feels as though it is about the same weight as the Sansa.
2)Slippage - As indicated, I find this armband to work best when positioned between my bicep and shoulder. In order to keep it from slipping down my arm when running, I have to get it pretty snug on my arm. It is a pretty thin line between too loose, just right and tourniquet tight. If I don't tighten this armband enough, despite weightlifting, my biceps aren't large enough to keep this armband in position when my arm approaches a stretched out position and I find this armband/Sansa slipping down my arm.
3)Weightlifting - This product is pretty marginal on my arm for weightlifting. If I get it tight enough to stay put, then any lifting is uncomfortable as the top of my bicep is constrained by the armband.
4)The protection afforded to my Sansa from this armband is, to some degree a hindrance in operation of that Sansa. Pause, FF/REW are a bit difficult to activate. The volume and clickable selection button are readily accessible.
Summary:
For my arm and exercise routines, this is a marginally acceptable product. I will continue to utilize this armband, but will be on the lookout for a different product that addresses my major concerns (weight and ability to position the armband and keep it in place).
