Pros: Kills on contact, residual.
Cons: Cheap spray nozzle and hose.
In Texas, if it doesnt freeze during the winter, fleas become a problem in the spring and summer. Palmetto bugs (those huge flying cockroaches), silverfish, sugar ants and spiders are also abundant. I have even spotted a couple of brown scorpions outside. I have seen the odd spider inside the house but nothing more. Thats a plus for me as I hate to spray insecticides inside the house.
However, in this state it is wise to have some kind of protection as bugs are so numerous and will take any chance they can to invade your house. I decided, as a precaution, that I would do a perimeter treatment to keep any bugs out and for this I bought Spectracide Bug Stop Indoor & Outdoor Insect Control.
The active ingredient in this product is Permethrin, a relatively common insecticide that is moderately toxic according to PAM.

Having treated the fire ants in my yard, I now had stop any bugs from invading my home. This product is for indoor and outdoor use but I bought it to treat the perimeter oif my house outside. I prefer not to spray chemicals inside. As with any chemical, it is a good idea to wear some waterproof gloves and spray on a day when there is no wind.
This insecticide comes in a clear 1 gallon bottle with a separate sprayer. The sprayer was easy to attach. However, the thin, plastic hose was coiled and the end would pop above the liquid line. That made it impossible to spray so I had to mess around with that for a while to get it to stay in the bottom of the bottle. After that, it was smooth sailing. I sprayed a three foot path around the foundation of my house, taking care to spray around the windows and door jambs as I was going. It took about three bottles to complete my task and a tired wrist from spraying but I managed to cover all areas.
This product was a little messy. The spray nozzle is cheap and dripped as it sprayed which made the gloves even more necessary. It also has a pungent odor and of course is not good to inhale. I sprayed about four feet ahead of me and managed to avoid the fumes.
I noticed that it was killing insects on contact as I sprayed the path of a few ants and since then have seen evidence of it working when I found a couple of dead spiders and a scorpion. I have also noticed less bees and no fleas around my yard since I sprayed too.
It has been two months since I did the treatment and I am very pleased with the results. Any insects I have found have been dead so it seems to be doing its job. This product is supposed to keep on killing insects for up to nine months. I sincerely doubt that but we will see.
I like Spectracide products. Most of them have not let me down. So far, this is one I can add to the list. At $7.99 per gallon bottle, it is cheaper than most insecticides. It is easy to apply once you have untwined the sprayer hose but it does have a cheap nozzle. That could be improved.
On the whole, I would recommend Spectracide Bug Stop Indoor & Outdoor Insect Control for outdoor use. I prefer to use baits or gels inside the house if I have a problem. It takes about an hour to do a perimeter treatment which does an effective job of keeping insects out of the house.
