A great place to watch the Parade is from the landing that looks over Main Street off of the Railroad Station. This area fills up early and fast, so be there an hour and a half ahead of time. Also Note: There are times that this area is used to seat VIP Disney Guests to view the parade and Fireworks. On those occasions it is pretty impossible to get that vantage point. After the Fireworks you are at a good location to leave the park quick, OR, stay around a while and enjoy the color changing castle. The park remains open for at least an hour after the rides close, and WDW transportation continues up to two hours after the park closes.
Another spot that is pretty good is at the area of Main Street where it circles around. Good viewing spots need to be scouted out early, at least 30 min., but as early as an hour before the start of the parade. There are special viewing locations for persons in wheelchairs. Ask a Cast Member for the locations, or check into City Hall, just to the right of the entrance of the park. They have brochures that provides not only schedules for the daily events, but they have maps of the park. The whole atmosphere during the Parade and Fireworks is a memory that you will never forget. I've even thought of looking for the music from the Parade and Firework Display to buy. I know that listening to it would take me back there.
During our last trip we took our video camera and found it rather cumbersome to drag to the Theme parks. But we made a trip back to the resort for dinner and to get the camera. Even in the dark, the footage of the Parade turned out wonderful. You can hear the music in the background, the laughter of children, and the ooo's and auhhh's of adults.
I love the entire Parade, but one of my favorite things are the spinning tops that move around in circles inside circles. They move fast and slow alternating back and forth. I've seen them go between and around other floats and such. They flash one color for a bit, then turn to another color. They make this wonderful high giggle type noise that just makes you feel so happy. The floats stop and move in conjunction with the music, and at times they choose people from the crowd to be a part of the parade.
To find the schedule for the parade just go to WWW.Disney.com and to destinations. Click on WDW then on calendar/events and it will give the dates and times for the parade. Note that it does not happen every night in slower seasons, but in regular and high seasons it does show each night. Some evenings it will show twice.
