Leah, I (unfortunately) can help you out.
The insects you are referring to are insects that find their way into your house via contaminated grain. We've had the problem more than once buying basmati rice (to the point where my husband is now forbidden from buying any).
They hatch, eat any and all grains in your house, and leave their nasty shells all over the place. When we first had them, I had no Tupperware, and it looked like mouse droppings, and I completely went insane. The second time, the contaminated rice was only in the one container, so it was easier to get rid of them.
