bubbajames's Full Review: Irwin Speedbor 87950 3-Piece e Bit Set
Plumbers and electricians are sure to love This three piece drill bit set from Irwin. It has short length spade bits in the sizes 1/2, 3/4, and 1 inch. At 4 inches long, they are 3 inches shorter than most manufacturers spade bits.
Thes shanks are 1/4 inch, so they will fit any drill or impact driver. There is a quick connect end on it to allow these bits to be used with extensions if you need a longer length bit.
At around six bucks, these bits are cheap enough that I don't have to worry about hitting a nail and ruining the bit.
The 1/2 inch size is perfect for the smaller stuff, such as voice and data line or cable tv wire. The 3/4 size is ideal for 1/2 inch pipe or runing electrical wires through joists and studs.(Wood only, These bits don't cut metal) While the 1 inch size is good for electrical wires and 3/4 pipe runs.
Economical and practical, these bits simply fit where others don't. I can drill holes between studs/joists without resorting to my angle drills. For really tight spots, one of these bits and an angle drill is just the ticket.
Like most spade type paddle bits, drilling with them is o.k.- I would rather work with an auger or self feed for the speed, as these bits are noticeably slower. They are also more rough- The holes blowout the back, and there is more vibration than you would encounter with an auger or self feed, but at the price, the tradeoff is worth it.
