| marytara's Full Review: Spin Master Toys Flip Open Sofa with Slumber Bag -... |
My girlfriend has a carebears flip out sofa for her kids that my daughter really enjoyed sitting and playing on every time we visited her. Since she liked the sofa, I had toyed with getting one for her. Well, the icing on the cake was, one day she took a nap on this sofa for over 2 hours. Can you guess what I headed out in search of after that?
You got it! A flip out couch.
I went to Toys 'R Us and they had quite the selection of sofas with different characters. Some of the sofas had built in sleeping bags, and some didn't. I put a couple of them out onto the floor in front of the shelf so she could pick out her couch. Well, it wasn't surprising that my daughter picked out this Disney Princess one, with the zip on slumber sack.
All About it
The Disney Princess Flip Out Sofa with Slumber bag is a little child sized sofa for lounging, play, or light napping. Its essentially foam pieces that can be folded and unfolded from sofa to sofa-bed. My daughter has spent the night on her sofabed (we used it while traveling), though it is not intended to be a bed thats put into regular use as its just too thin (only a few inches of foam padding). The sofa measures: 15-1/2 by 18 by 27-1/2 inches. Flipped out into a bed, it measures: 33 by 23-1/2 inches.
The cover of ours is pink and purple with roses and stars on it and its adorned with Disney Princesses - Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Belle on it. There's a little padded blanket that is very thin that zips on and off the top of it (also with princesses) to make it a sleeping bag, and inside the sack its light blue.
Thankfully, the slipcover is removable so you can wash it as needed. We've had to wash ours more than a few times due to various spills, accidents and other unmentionables. To remove the cover you need to use a bent safety clip and stick it through the safety zipper to release the lock. Pay attention when you take the foam pieces out of the slipcover because the foam pieces that make up the flipped out portion (and that fold up to be the seat) need to be loaded in a certain way so that it works right. We've put it back together incorrectly a few times and then the cover doesn't fit quite right. After several washings our cover has held up quite well and hasn't gotten stained (luckily). I have noticed a tiny bit of fading and that a few of the seams look as if they are stressed.
My daughter loves her princess couch/sofa bed and enjoys sitting on it like a couch to read a book or watch TV. More often then not ours can be found in the flipped out mode and she'll use it as a soft place to sit and play or lay down and relax. She likes to take her dolls and tuck them into the cozy slumber sack, and then get in and lay down beside them. This "bed" has proven to be a very handy place for quiet time and naps. The foam is thin but we have it on a carpetted floor so my daughter doesn't seem to mind. At just under 2 years of age, she is little enough that she is able to stretch her legs out and lay completely flat on it. Older and taller children may not be able to fit or stretch out in the slumber sack, so keep this in mind. The same sofa without the slumber sack sells for about $10 less. The sofa is also available with other characters if you are looking for something other than Disney Princess.
Our Disney Princess slumber sofa gets used almost every day and has found its "home" in our living room. Most of the time you'll find it right in the center of the floor, but I love that its light enough to just move out of the way when its not in use. Kids love to have small chairs and furniture that is just their size. This couch (and other similar ones from SpinMaster Toys) makes for a fun, affordable and practical choice.
