After many, many requests for "Moon Sand", my husband and I finally gave in and purchased the main kit with two extra colors of sand at Target.
The Moon Sand is stored in two sturdy plastic containers.
That was a plus! The product itself has glistening, sparkling crystals in it. The kit came in a light purple color. We purchased green and blue individual packs of sand to go with it, but when combined together, all of the colors turn into that same purple, so we have lots of purple moon sand now.
Moon sand is missing something. It needs to be moister, and more dense. It can be molded, but does not hold its shape well. I think its just fun for my daughter to stick her hands in the stuff, pack it into the molds... and it ends there.
The Moon sand is played with in a blow up plastic rectangular box that needs to be taller, because the sand comes out over the sides. Its tough to vacuum this out of the carpet and a pain to sweep it off of the floor. The bottom of the box is a cardboard insert, so the sand gets under that, too. Generally, a pain to store this large box.
Once you give in and purchase this, the mystery is over and playtime will not be very often, but actually, I think thats for the best. Who feels like cleaning this up?
