| bwestman's Full Review: Spring Air Back Supporter Four Seasons Mattress |
You know it is time for a new mattress when you find yourself sitting on the couch watching television until you are literally too tired to see because you don’t look forward to going to bed. We had reached that stage in our lives. The bed we had was old, creaky, vicious, mean, and small. Going to bed at night held all the appeal of a trek to the torture chamber. Effectively, that’s exactly what it was.
When Uncle Sam blessed us with a generous return, we chose to invest the money wisely. We selected for ourselves a nice new queen size Spring Air Four Seasons mattress set. Never in my life have I felt that my money was so well spent.
First of all, and most importantly, this mattress is comfortable. It has the pillow top for additional cushioning and extra coils in the lumbar region for added support to the back and hip area. It is aptly named the Four Season mattress due to the construction of the pillow top linings. The two sleeping surfaces of the mattress are different. One side is quilted with a wool blend fabric designed to absorb body heat and keep you warm in the fall and winter. The other side is quilted with a silk blend to keep you cool in the spring and summer.
So far, we have only slept on the “winter” side of the mattress, but I can certainly attest to the fact that it keeps you very warm. I left the bed to attend to bathroom matters in the middle of the night one night. (Yes, Hard-to-Please, I had to pee.) When I returned to the bed about 10 minutes later, my spot was still warm! Unlike some conventional beds, when you first climb into the covers of this bed, the mattress is comfy, not cold in the winter. Our overnight temps have been near zero degrees lately, but I am toasty in my Four Seasons bed.
The one aspect of this mattress I was unprepared for it its overall height. This puppy is huge! The frame we have is just a standard metal frame with about 5-6 inches of ground clearance (if that) and yet, with the mattress and box spring in place, this bed is about 3 feet high. I like it this way. It makes it easy to get in and out of without having to bend much. I don’t know of any disadvantage to this, right off, but I was certainly surprised by the height when we put the bed together.
The Four Seasons mattress is one of Spring Air’s top of the line. It features their 7-5-3 structure. They boast seven comfort zones, five support zones, and three durability zones. In a nutshell, here’s what that means. The layers of coils and padding are designed to make up the comfort zones. Seven areas of the mattress have been targeted with conforma foam to conform to the actual shape of your body. For the five support zones, the coils have been concentrated in these targeted areas to offer body support in the areas of the mattress where a body is most likely to be the heaviest. And, for the three durability zones, Spring Air has reinforced the edges to prevent sagging and added steel beams to work with the inner spring system to assure that your mattress lasts a long time.
This mattress came with a 10 year non-prorated warranty. Given what I’ve learned about how it was made and judging for myself as I sleep on it, I believe that it has been designed to last well beyond that warranty period. I am convinced that we have made a wise choice and every night, I choose to sleep on my decision. Actually, I look forward to going to sleep more than I have in a very long time.
