I am a thorough shopper. I do my research. I read my Consumer Reports. Everyone said don't scrimp on a mattress -- you spend 1/3 of your life in it. I tested out dozens of mattresses. I was thoroughly convinced that the Spring Air 4 Seasons was the most wonderful mattress ever. I was willing to plunk down almost $1100 for this ultra-comfortable mattress, as a poor just-graduated-from-college youngster.
I was extremely happy with my decision. I thought it was wonderful to climb into bed and curl up into my big, fat pillows. It had the perfect balance of back-supporting firmness and soft pillow top comfort. There were no problems for a couple years.
Then after about 2 years, the mattress began sagging in the middle. Just slightly at first. It was only barely perceptible. But slowly as time passed, the sag got worse and worse.
Now after 5 years, it is very noticeable. I'm married now and we both sort roll/slide into the middle. It is very frustrating that such an expensive mattress would sag so soon.
To make matters worse, I have not been able to get any assistance from Spring Air. They seem to have no interest in upholding the warranty. Part of the problem is that I purchased the mattress and box spring from Montgomery Wards (who has since gone out of business), though I do have the receipt. I have been very disappointed with Spring Air and will probably ultimately have to go to the BBB.
In summary, you should not buy this mattress unless you don't mind replacing the mattress every few years. I loved this mattress initially, but won't be buying a Spring Air again.
