Happy with Sprint's coverage

Pros: More bars in more places? Definitely true with Sprint, vs Cingular or Verizon
Cons: Their service plan 100 minutes less than Cingular but otherwise comparable. Also offers no rollover.
The Bottom Line: The bottom line is, Sprint has better coverage than Verizon and Cingular, so we're sticking with them. I am very happy with their service.

My husband and I have been comparing family plans and we are going to stick with Sprint.
I've been a Sprint customer for about 6 years now. For the first year I was not happy with their coverage, especially in my home town Cupertino, CA. I once complained about it, and they promptly refunded me 3 months' worth of service! So I stuck with them, since their customer service was so great.
And after a couple of years their network has improved **dramatically**. Slowly my reception improved to the point where I have zero complaints. Now, I never have a dropped call. Recently Sprint merged with Nextel and their coverage should improve that much more.
I live in San Jose now and I have never had a dropped call, not here or anywhere in the Bay Area (with the exception of a little dead zone on 280 just south of 92). I drive all over the Bay Area and am constantly on the phone, so I have thoroughly tested the limits of my cell phone (a Samsung A500 - nothing fancy but it has great reception).
My husband has Cingular and hates it, since his calls drop all the time and you can't understand a word he says when he does get through to you. His phone is digital, about 2 years old. He doesn't have a GSM phone. We are told this is the future of technology, but for now if you want good reception, GSM isn't quite there yet.
Plan-wise, Cingular offers a better deal - 1600 monthly minutes vs Sprint's 1500 for $89.99, plus Cingular offers rollover. Cingular says Sprint doesn't have GSM capability but this is not true. If your call is made in a non-Sprint coverage area, your call will roam to a GSM network and you will not be charged roaming (assuming you have a GSM phone).
All other services are the same - free nationwide calls, no roaming charges. You get 2 comparable, free phones with each service.
Since we are starting a family, for me coverage is more important than an extra 100 minutes we probably won't use anyway. I want my phone to work from anywhere.
We didn't check out Verizon, since our friends who have Verizon don't seem to have the good reception I do with Sprint. Even in Lake Tahoe and San Diego. My phone always has the best reception.
I assume this is a regional thing; for example when I travel to Denver my reception is not quite what it is in the Bay Area. But I used to have terrible reception in San Diego and LA, and that isn't true now. It's perfect in both places.
