| nuned's Full Review: Sprint Mobile Phone Service in San Francisco/San J... |
I started using Sprint after graduating from college. Back then you had to pay extra for minutes, nights starting at 7, and roaming, which apparently is becoming standard. Living in Berkeley, I realized that roaming can happen anywhere even your very own apartment. This trend of weak signal bars and roaming in resident and office buildings made Sprint very disappointing at times. I stayed living in the San Francisco Bay Area for six years and even though my time to move came, it is not the same with my Sprint contract. Over the years, any change to my plan resulted into a new 2 year contract. When I added my mother to my plan, I had to renew my contract. When I added my brother to my plan, I had to renew my contract.
The most frustrating part of Sprint is the disconnection between the Sprint Store and Customer Service (on-line and calling them directly). When I went to buy a new phone at the Sprint Store, the sales representative was urging me to get the phone free by adding a new line. He figured it would cost me $10 per month on my plan, but I wouldn't have to pay for the $300 phone. I had to explain to the guy in three different ways that I didn't need an extra line, I could afford the phone at retail price, and that there wasn't anybody else I wanted to include on my line.
Calling Customer Service, first is frustrating when you are on the automated service with Claire and she doesn't know what you want. Then if you ever do something at the Sprint Store and you want to change it with Customer Service, they sometimes do not know what you are talking about. Customer Service has told me to go back to the Sprint Store and fix my problem there. The same is true with changing your plan on-line, if you talk to the Sprint Store or Customer Service they may direct to go back on-line to check what you did.
Although, I have focused on the bad experiences of Sprint, I would add that I have been with Sprint for 6 years and do not find myself changing. The plans are getting better and cheaper (finally) but PCS to PCS (now free) has saved my financial life. Most of my friends and family use Sprint and they get longer phone calls, because we don't have to worry about minutes. During the weekend it is nice to call nationwide long distance and not worry about minutes. I have traveled to different parts of the country and have seen that coverage is good in most rural and cities (just don't enter a building). In a given month I could say that I have 5 calls dropped, which isn't bad given that my average call usage is 1,500 minutes per month.
