| Freak369's Full Review: St. Ives Cucumber Melon Moisturing Body Wash |
I was a hard-core user of the Lever 2000 Body Wash and swore Id never try another liquid body product. When Albertsons had their line of St. Ives products on sale I saw that the Cucumber Melon Moisturizing Body Wash was tagged at $2.14. Having a $1.00 off coupon that meant that Id end up paying $1.14 for a 15.5 ounce bottle a bargain that I simply couldnt pass up. I was completely convinced when I flipped the top of the bottle open and took a sniff not too strong, not too fruity and just the right blend of scents. The added Vitamin E and revitalizing sales pitch mentioned on the bottle sealed the deal. As I said, I was a Lever 2000 fanatic and Im sure if you give this a try youll be hooked on it as well.
What Is It?
This is marketed as a body wash with added Vitamin E and moisturizing compounds that help to keep your skin smooth as well as give you a great after shower scent. Now, this wont leave you smelling like a fruit and vegetable tray like some body washes that over do it on the fragrance but it will stay with you for a few hours. This is safe for every part of your body but it does come with a warning not to get it in your eyes. Since my initial purchase Ive picked up a few more of these for the kitchen and as a liquid hand soap for the bathroom. The bottle is nicely shaped and while there arent any grips to it, it is easy to use in the shower or with wet hands. The flip top lid is easy to open and close and snaps shut to avoid wasting any if it tips over.
The Scent
The scent is a very nice blend between cucumbers and what I believe to be a few of the members from the melon family. Since the ingredients only list the generic melon scent it is hard to say for sure which one they are referring to. Doing some research on the term Cucumis Melo I found out that this is the seedling of a muskmelon which is a cousin to the cantaloupe but can also include other fruits in the melon family. Regardless, the scent is refreshing and leaves you with a little boost after you get out of the shower. There is no need to over rinse when using this as either a body or hand soap and the left over fragrance is light and doesnt stick with you for the entire day. There is also no need to spend extra time in the shower rinsing this off because while there is adequate foaming action, it doesnt require an extra five minutes to get it off your skin.
Got Sensitive Skin?
I dont have extremely sensitive skin by one of my boys does and he has managed to use this for a few weeks with no irritation or break outs from it. Until he started using this he was using the Johnsons & Johnsons Head To Toe Baby Wash and wasnt too happy about it. He wanted to use real body soap not something for babies. I was most concerned with using this as a hand soap and the possibility of it drying out my hands but the added moisturizers seem to be working great. If you have sensitive skin or have a child with that breaks out easily you will have to use your own judgment in regards to purchasing this. Just because my son didnt break out from it doesnt mean that youll have the same luck.
Whats In It?
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hydroxypropyl Guar Hydroxoxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cucumis Sativus [Cucumber] Fruit Extract, Cucumis Melo [Melon] Fruit Extract, Chamolmilla Recuitita [Matricairia] Extract, Helianthus Annuus [Sunflower] Extract, Primula Veris Extract, Sambucus Nigra Flower Extract, Panthenol, Retinyl Plamitate, Citric Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Isostearamidopropyl Morpholine Lactate, Sodium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantion, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance [Parfum], Blue1 [CI 42090], Yellow 5 [CI19140].
Things To Know
One of my biggest gripes about liquid body and hand soaps is that some of them are so fragrant that the scent is overpowering and stays with you far too long. Being a contact lens wearer I need to make sure that my hands are clean as well as free of chemicals or scents that could sting when inserting or removing the lenses. So far I havent had any trouble using this as a hand soap prior to removing or inserting the lenses or handling them while cleaning them. There is nothing worse than putting in your contacts and having them burn your eyes from the left over fragrance.
If you try this and like it, St. Ives also offers a moisturizing hand lotion and facial gel in matching scents. Ive tried both of these and must say that I am extremely impressed with the quality as well as the price. This is a great way to get your scents organized and avoid smelling like a fruit basket when you are done taking a shower and applying a lotion. The St. Ives line is available nationally at Target, Wal-Mart, CVS and K-Mart however if you are having trouble locating a store in your area that sells these products, please call the toll free customer service line at [800] 527-5879 between the hours of 9:00 am 5:00 pm Central Stands Time for assistance. Additionally, you can email them at customerrelations@stives.com for more information.
The Bottom Line
So far this has been one of the best scented body washes I have come across. It rinses away completely, leaves you feeling revitalized and doesnt cost an arm and a leg even when it isnt on sale. If you are looking to replace your current body wash or just looking to try something new I highly suggest checking out the Cucumber Melon Moisturizing Body Wash from St. Ives. For more information on this and other great St. Ives products feel free to visit their website at http://www.stives.com/home.cfm. I am completely satisfied with this product and can honestly say that even if you are a beauty product purist and are dedicated to one specific product if you try this I can almost guarantee that you will love it. As I said at the beginning of this review, I was a loyal and dedicated user of the Lever 2000 Body Wash and have since replaced it with this product. Its less expensive, lasts a bit longer than the Lever Body Wash, doesnt irritate my sons skin and has a great scent.
As always, thanks for the visit!
