Pros: Hypoallergenic, low fragrance, good moisturization, nongreasy
Cons: Still has frangrance, contains lanolin
I have severe dry skin due to eczema and have tried all kinds of lotions. This hypoallergenic lotion does a great job of moisturizing without aggravating my eczema. Its also the lotion I purchase when I want large quantities for less money.
I need to put lotion on several times a day, and in the dry winters every hour. My needs are so great that I'm not afraid to spend $16 on a small bottle of special moisturizers for everyday use; and I need to use it on many more places than just the hands.
I currently Cetephil as my primary moisturizer in the morning and after showers at night. For extra sensitive areas prone to more break outs, I use more specialized creams (Kukui nut, aloe moisturizing cream, etc) But during the day, at the office, I have St Ives Vitamin A&E lotion on my desk. Ive had to reject Lubriderm because of irritation, inadequacy, and greasy after feel.
This lotion comes in a large 18 oz bottle and competes with the likes of Vaseline intensive care lotion. In this category, I found that the Vitamin E lotion in particular (compared to other flavors) does the best job of being a hypoallergenic, nongreasy, strong and lasting moisturizer, and soothing to feel, without an excess of fragrances. This does contain acetylated lanolin alcohol for those that are concerned with this.
For about $7, the 18 oz bottle lasts a long time and thus works well as the bulk day lotion that sits on my desk.
The lotion has a nice cooling sensation as it goes on and because it is not overloaded with fragrances, it does not sting my rash areas as other lotions do. The moisturization is immediate and very effective often soothing the itchies due to very dry skin. There is still some fragrance, however. It is absorbed quickly into the skin and does not leave a greasy feeling at all, but leaves your skin feeling like normal skin.
If I had any complaints, it would be that this is still a mainstream targeted lotion and thus contains some fragrance. The smell is lotiony without being floral or overly feminine, and thus is suited for either gender.
I make sure to keep a bottle of St Ives Vitamin A&E on my desk for a more economical way of keeping a good hypoallergenic lotion available for frequent usage throughout the day.
