| VSP's Full Review: St. Ives Oil Free Moisturizer |
I wish you were looking in the mirror with me this morning, because if you were, you would notice I was smiling and feeling so satisfied after using St. Ives Oil Free Moisturizer. Until last night, when it finally rained in New Jersey after nearly 30 days without any precipitation, we had incredibly dry weather. The humidity at times was way under 30 percent, so we had a desert climate for a while! (Compare that to our summers, with that often 98 percent humidity you can cut with a knife.)
While the sky was incredibly blue, and all the azaleas were in bloom (and people were suffering from pollen), and I was having GREAT hair days (my long curly hair never frizzed), but my face was--well that was different--my skin was feeling drier and tighter (extremely unusual for my combo skin).
So this morning it was misty rain, finally, giving relief, and it was serendipity, too, that the time coincided for me to open up a new moisturizer. Although this is only the first day I've been using St. Ives Oil Free Moisturizer, I can assure you I am ready to tell you my epinion on this because I am so happy with this product.
I bought this product soon after it came out as a new item and purchased it at the supermarket, on sale, and used a coupon. I've stored it for a few months in the closet, and I'm so glad I've pulled it out.
This moisturizer is in a generous-sized, 4-ounce plastic container stand-up bottle with a flip-open cap on the bottom. There is definitely tremendous value for the money here in terms of lots of volume for what you paid for. The product does have a few very minor drawbacks, and I want to make sure I include them in my overall very favorable review of this lotion. When I flipped open the large cap, I didn't like that there was some lotion stuck in it--that is one of my pet peeves of mine, when residue from a product is in the cap.
I'm uncertain why this product is packaged in this type of bottle, and I would ask the manufacturer to explore alternatives.
I squirted out a small amount of St. Ives Oil Free Moisturizer onto my fingers. And it was a SSS-QUIRT. Like a little blob came out. Like when you're at the last squirt of a stand-up toothpaste product. I didn't care too much for that part, either, because now the lotion is on my fingers, and I have to somehow flip the cap back closed with my other hand, also knowing I might have to repeat this process of receiving small blob-squirts.
Trying it out cautiously, I dabbed and smoothed the white creamy lotion over areas of my face where I normally use moisturizer, but not using it on places that my combo face doesn't need it, especially my nose. I noticed that if I used too much in one area, it was not a big deal, I could easily smooth it around because it is a relatively light formula. The product won't go to waste, I felt I could use it as generously as I wanted to with no problem. The product is 100% oil free, is hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic. All great things. It rehydrated my skin without feeling greasy at all.
I detected the slightest offensive(?) or unpleasant(?) odor that the lotion had, although I believe this product is supposed to be fragrance free. I could still lump in the "unscented" category, so for example, if a man needed to borrow the product for his face he wouldn't have to worry about any perfume smell. The product info says it contains cornflower extract, and I think that would help give a soothing property to the formula.
The moisturizer absorbed very nicely for me, yet I don't think it clogged my pores. I was thrilled with the results--very SOFT skin!! And here's another plus I couldn't believe--my face was NOT SHINY! Every day, I always use a powder compact to cover up shine. Today was a rare occasion that I could have confidently walked away without using any face powder. (Just to be sure though, I powdered my nose only.)
I looked in the mirror, smiled, thought, "Wow, my face looks so natural. I have a glow, I didn't need hardly any face powder, and when I touch my face, it feels so soft!"
So there you have it. My face feels very soft, with smoothness, but doesn't feel greasy at all.
If this product contained an SPF ingredient to help block harmful rays from the sun, that would be an added plus. So I would need to add an extra product in this case to help prevent sun damage.
I would buy St. Ives Oil Free Moisturizer again, it's a good neutral basic to have around when you don't feel like fussing with much of anything else, or as back-up, or if someone asks if they could borrow some lotion. Definitely, I recommend it to you.
By the way, if you are looking for a great basic daily facial lotion, try Neutrogena Moisture with SPF 15 in unscented. You may refer to my epinion on this.
Happy Spring! :)
