| starcrossedkat's Full Review: St. Ives Purifying Clear Pore Cleanser |
About two months ago I noticed that my face was unusually shiny and oily. Nothing had changed in my daily face wash routine and I was at a loss to why my skin started playing tricks on me. Chalk it up to a change of weather, stress, hormones or whatever. And whatever the cause was, I wanted to get rid of the effect. During a trip to the drugstore, I noticed St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser on the shelf. I remember reading reviews of such a product on Epinions, some who liked it, others who didn’t. I figured for $2.99 for 10 ounces, it was worth a shot. And now jump forward two months later to today and here’s what I have to say (a rhyme!).
St. Ives’ Claim
Deep cleans pores to effectively eliminate oil, leaving skin fresh, clear and healthy. St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser unleases the power of nature in a formula proven to leave skin fresh, clear and healthy. (Btw, unleases is not liked by Microsoft word….perhaps a new word?). St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser contains tea tree for “skin clarity”, chamomile for “soothing” and primrose for “moisturizing”.
The Look
St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser comes in a plastic pump form that’s an opaque color. The cleanser itself is a light minty green. You can see the level of how much product through the plastic which is definitely a plus. It has the standard St. Ives logo along with a picture of what I would guess to be a tea tree? Since this products contains tea tree…that’s what it must be. Anyway, there’s nothing offensive looking about this product.
The Smell
So I’m guessing that this smell is tea tree extract. I’ve never smelled tea trees before but I don’t find the scent offensive or strong. It’s not flowery, but smells like a pine tree. You know how they have kind of a spicy scent? St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser smells kind of like that. It’s not an overwhelming scent however. Other members seem to find the scent unpleasing or too strong but I really don’t find it that bad. It’s certainly tolerable and quite delightful. In reading the directions, it has extract from sunflowers, primroses, chamomile, eucalyptus, sambucus nigra flower (I have no idea what that is), lavender and of course, tea tree. Yummy! Also, it sounds healthy and flowery and that’s always nice. Like being in touch with nature…but not.
So does it work?
Remember that I bought this product to get rid of the excess oil my face was producing. Within a week, I noticed results. Oil was no longer oozing out of my face and my forehead was much drier during the span of a day. Other people find St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser to be drying which I have noticed on my cheeks, but nothing that a little moisturizer can’t handle. And it really does cut down on the oil.
Another thing I like about this product is that it rinses really well. It doesn’t leave a soapy film on my face and I don’t require repeated splashings of water to remove the product.
Also, I’ve had this for 2 months and still have 95% of this product left. A definite plus. Considering that I bought this for 3 bucks, and it’ll last me a long time.
So any problems?
Nope. None. I like to pair this with my exfoliator to really dig deep at my blackheads and haven’t found this to completely over dry my skin. You might read other members who don’t care for this product, but I haven’t found any faults with it. So I recommend St. Ives Purifying Facial Clear Pore Cleanser with two thumbs in the air.
