While I was waiting to get my puppy, I did a lot of shopping in pet stores. I was just like an expectant mother shopping for her baby's layette. My baby needed a brush and comb, dishes, puppy food, and LOTS of toys. Then I walked into the part of the dog aisle with clean-up supplies. Things I'd rather not think too much about like pooper scoopers. There were also several bottles of solution to remove pet stains and odors. They all seemed pretty similar, so I picked up Simple Solution because it was the cheapest. Guess what - it also really works.
Once my puppy was home, it was time to train him. Along with taking him out constantly, that means cleaning up any spots he makes on the floor. You can't just wash it up with soap and water, because it leaves enough scent behind for your puppy to smell. He'll then get the idea that this is where he's supposed to go. Another bad product to wash up accidents with is ammonia. Urine is mostly ammonia, so imagine how well that works. Simple solution works because it has enzymes that break down the stains and odors so that they're really gone.
To use, clean up the area first with paper towels. Soak with Simple Solution and let stand a minute or two - this was when I would take my puppy out to show where he was supposed to go! Dry up the area with paper towels. You can also add it to the wash water to clean bedding or clothes that got stained. According to the bottle, this will also work on human baby accidents, but my kids are past that stage, so I can't attest to that.
It does work really well on both odors and stains, if you catch them right away. It doesn't work on stains as well if they have dried. It gets the smell out, but I can still see a couple of spots that I've cleaned several times. These were in hidden areas and had totally dried before I found them. Another problem I've discovered is that vomit bleaches carpet fibers, and simple solution will not stop this.
If you are getting a puppy, I would highly recommend getting some Simple Solution. You will need it!
