StairMaster 4000PT is a classic fitness system that will turn you into a butter churning workhorse. You’ve all seen the StairMaster. It can be grueling. Seems a bit antiquated compared to exercise equipment on the market today. No one said being in shape was a glamorous process. If it ain’t broke . . .
The StairMaster has been around since the 1980’s, last millenium. This was the machine that would restore the fitness faith of the ladies I knew. “Whew, I did StairMaster today for 45 minutes.” It doesn’t look like much of a machine but give it time and you’ll feel the burn.
StairMaster is a repetitive exercise that simulates climbing flights of stairs in succession. Your progress is measured in terms of 8” stairs per minute. The dynamics of your workout can be customized in a multitude of ways.
StairMaster has nine different training plateaus:
Interval Training
Pikes Peak
Blast Off
Random
Manual Control
Roller Coaster
Lunar Landing
Steady Climb
Black Hole
Their descriptions pretty much say it all. I tend to adjust my training plateau according to my mood. My favorites are Random, Roller Coaster (a rolling up & down motion), and Lunar Landing (small intense peaks and spikes).
You should stretch and warm up before you exercise on the StairMaster. This will keep you loose and prevent any potential injuries. If you aren’t a fan of this type of warm up then simply step onto the machine and get to work. Gradually you will feel your muscles loosening and you will start to perspire around the seven minute mark.
StairMaster allows you to control the plateau settings according to the demands you want to place on your body. A keypad lets you adjust your speed. For maximum results stand erect and feel your muscles working throughout your legs. In time you will find a comfortable stride that will strengthen the lower half of your body and lower back.
Getting started on StairMaster is easy. Enter weight, program, level and time - off you go. An interval ticker counts off in paces of 20 helping you break up the workout monotony. StairMaster can really be boring. This is the sort of machine that takes extreme discipline and dedication.
StairMaster keeps an accurate measure of the following categories while you train: calories, miles, floors, time, kilograms and watts. You can toggle back and forth between the views depending upon which categories interests you most.
Twenty minutes, three times a week is the recommended workout for StairMaster. Following a program such as this is certainly a step in the right direction towards getting in shape. The benefits of StairMaster exercise are plentiful. Loose and control weight, cardiovascular, reduce stress and lower cholesterol. Plus not enough can be said of the restful sleep derived from a healthy workout. Keep climbing!!
