In case I've failed to mention that I'm married to a tall, sexy male who is part Apache Indian, looks better today than he did 23 years ago (in my opinion) when I married him and drives me bonkers with his comical outlook on life experiences (sometimes), I'll reveal that little piece of information now. His name is Jeff, but I call him "Jeffie", which only attests to the characteristics that make up the little "comedy" of our life.
Jeffie and myself are both dog lovers. We don't have biological children, but we have four mischievous boys who range in age from 3-18 (in a dog's life that would be 21-126). And, yes... all of our "boys" are typical males, with a tendency toward signing their name in the snow (oops... that was Jeffie)... I meant marking their territory.
Our boys are sometimes forgetful of their surroundings and take their masculinity out on our carpet instead of the trees and bushes just past the front porch. And, thus... despite steam cleaning until the sweat poured from every pore I possessed, over and over and over again... the carpet in our home came to give off the odor of a public restroom that I wouldn't approach during the worst of times. I mean the kind of restroom that would force me to squeeze my legs together until I peed myself, if unavoidable. It came to the point where I wanted to move out and let the dogs keep the place. Of course, I'd come over with feed, water and hugs every day, but the scent would leave my nostrils molested, even under those conditions.
Finally... after debating the issue with each other, we came to the conclusion that we had to either move to another place or put in wood floors. We could be moving every other year???!!! Wood flooring is cheaper than relocating and wherever we decided to live, it had become obvious that our naughty boys would be going with us. So, Jeffie (who happens to be exceptionally gifted in the carpentry department and has had quite a bit of experience in the installation of wood flooring... among other departments that I won't reveal here), visited our local building supply company and purchased the essentials for installing the wood flooring.
One of the essentials for installation of wood flooring is a flooring nailer. In his business (where he has been a jeff-of-all-trades; carpenter, plumber, roofer, tree topper, landscaper, and the list could continue into infinity...), Jeffie has installed wood floors many times. He had previously rented the flooring nailer, always imagining that "this particular time" would be the only time he would have a need for the flooring nailer. This particular time, though, he decided to acknowledge the basic facts. He would probably be installing wood flooring more than this one time, despite how much his back and knees might protest.
The Stanley Bostitch MFN-200 Flooring Nailer is a tool designed for nailing together tongue and groove flooring. With wood flooring, each board is designed with a tongue side and a groove side, and the boards are intended to fit snugly together, as the installer puts down one board at a time. The Bostitch nailer has a section on the head that fits straight over the tongue portion of the board. Once this section is in place, the installer uses a hammer (which comes with the nailer) that resembles a rubber mallet, to hit the top portion of the nailer, driving the nail through the board and nailing it to the understructure.
Stanley Bostitch MFN-200 Flooring Nailer's instruction manual provides a introduction, stating that the nailer is a precision-built tool, designed for nailing hardwood tongue and groove flooring, that the tool will provide efficient, dependable service when used properly, and advise on following the manual's instructions. The instructions include safety first, operation, loading, lubrication, maintaining the tool, replacing the hammer face and a parts list. The nailer also comes with a one year limited warranty.
As an inexperienced user, I can attest to the tool's ease of use. I helped my husband install flooring in three to four different residential homes (excluding our own - he did all the work on this one:) and I found the nailer to be as easy to use, even for someone with less strength in their upper body (like myself) than would be considered average, as using a hammer to nail a picture hanger on the wall. Jeffie has used the nailer on numerous occasions, in his business, and has been a satisfied customer of the Stanley Bostitch MFN-200 Flooring Nailer.
If, by chance, you are someone who has also had canine problems with carpeting and are interested in installing hardwood flooring, the Stanley Bostitch MFN-200 Flooring Nailer is an exceptional tool and will, undoubtedly, provide years of service.
