Stanley Bostitch Heavy Duty Stapler Can Staple Almost Anything with Ease!

Written: Dec 18 '07
Pros:Heavy duty, handles up to 60 pages of 20 lb. paper with ease!
Cons:The staple loading drawer a bit awkward to unhook.
The Bottom Line: This is a great, reasonable heavy duty stapler. If you are in the market for one, give this one a try!

I do a lot of testing of printed items for work. We need to keep samples of these items for auditing purposes. When we print out items that contain a lot of information, you need something large enough to staple them together that will not be a super pain to use.

This stapler can do it (as long as you are only stapling 60 sheets or less of 20 lb. paper). And, I have to say, it’s a cakewalk! This is one of the easiest heavy duty staplers that I have used!

The Heavy Duty Stapler

The stapler is made mostly of plastic. The base, the handle and the door that opens to the staple chute are all plastic. The crimper where the staples get formed so they will not scratch you, the chute that holds the staples and the spring slide that keeps the staples pushed to the front of the stapler are all metal.

The handle is nice, wide and has a slip resistant rubberized section to help your hand stay firmly on the handle when pushing down to staple your pages. The handle fits in my palm nicely. I do wear a large in women’s gloves, so I don’t have a small handprint. The anti-slip portion fits right in the middle of my palm and crosses end to end nicely. This gives me ample traction so my hand will not slip off while pushing down on the stapler.

The base of the stapler is covered end to end, side to side with a rubber base providing great traction on your desk top. This way, while you are pushing down to staple up to 60 pages, it will not slide out from underneath you.

The staples that you need to use are the Stanley Bostitch Heavy Duty Staples which come in a box of 5000 staples (50 rows of 100 count staples). This stapler has been very good about not jamming up. I don’t believe I have had one occurrence. I have seen this listed as the Stanley Bostitch Anti-Jam™ Personal Heavy Duty Flat Cinch Stapler and I would say it is holding true to this claim!

Drawbacks

One, and really the only, drawback that I have noticed with the stapler is when you have to put in the staples. The staple “drawer” is located on the back top side of the stapler. You have about a 2 inch door that you have to push forward, to the front of the stapler at the same time that you lift it up slightly to disconnect the latching mechanism. Sometimes, I find myself having to work at this for quite a few attempts to open the door or slide to be able to put in a new batch of staples.

This little door latches onto the back of the staple holder tray. It is easy to latch back on, but a bit awkward unhooking it.

Overall Impressions

If you are looking for a great stapler that will take care of large stacks of papers with just one push of the lever, this stapler can handle it. The stapler has made putting groups of documents together a breeze for me and helped reduce the pain in my hands from trying to use my little stapler 2 or 3 times per group of papers.

It is a relatively inexpensive stapler, compared to a lot of other heavy duty staplers on the market. We were able to order this one for just about $20.00. Online, I was able to find it around $25.00. Replacement staples are fairly inexpensive, roughly $3 - $4 a box.

You should check this one out if you are in a market for a heavy duty stapler to take care of a lot of paperwork in one swift push!
