This Star Trek Movie review will contain no spoilers. It won't give away anything about Star Trek The Movie plot details. For this reason, some information contained in the review will be of a general nature.
In this version of Star Trek The Movie we meet a much younger cast than we are used to seeing. As a result, a whole "next generation" is going to become hooked on Star Trek.
The movie is based on the TV series of the same name. It was created in the mid 1960's by Gene Rodenberry. Since then, it has also become a series of books by a multitude of different authors. Other shows to have come from the Star Trek movie and TV series have included Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, Deep Space Nine and others.
Star Trek The Movie is the story of how James T. Kirk came to be a Starfleet officer along with Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Uhura, and of course Spock
The Star Trek past was changed through time travel to bring us this version. The effect was stunning.
My daughter, Hubby and I were lucky enough to view an advance screening. We were delighted with the film and are already looking forward to seeing it again. There is a lot to like about Star Trek The Movie.
A couple of times the plot dragged. But, it dragged with the original TV series too. The special effects were stunning, well timed and pulled you into the movie.
The casting could not have been better.
Chris Pine did quite the job as a young and impetuous James T. Kirk. To me Leonard Nimoy is virtually irreplaceable and I had doubts that Zachary Quinto could fill Nimoy's shoes. I need not have been concerned. Zachary Quinto did a spectacualr job as Spock in this version of Star Trek The Movie.
A very different Uhura was portrayed by Zoe Saldana. It was odd to see her cast this way and I'm still getting my mind around the changes that were made to the Uhura character.
Nichelle Nichols always played Uhura as a lady who was above reproach. Uhura was cutting edge when she was originally cast in the 1960's. Although Zoe Saldana did an excellent job, seeing the change in the character of Uhura will take some getting used to. Time will tell if people will accept this change.
Nero is one of the baddest villians to grace the Star Trek screen. Eric Bana did an excellent job as did Winona Ryder. I never would have recognized her as Spock's mother and wish she could have had a larger role.
Like many people, ever since I was a young girl I have always been a fan of Star Trek. This film Star Trek The Movie lives up to expectations and delivery.
