| Staceys1's Full Review: Star Wars Darth Vader Voice Changer |
In a galaxy far, far away, there lived people and creatures of all shapes, sizes and species. Some were good, while others went over to the Dark Side. Here, on this planet, in early April, a number of stores had a "midnight madness" type of sale during which they unveiled many new Star Wars toys. While this Star Wars Darth Vader Voice Changer Mask had already been out on the store shelves, since we were in the store at midnight with a cart full of Star Wars items, my husband, a fan of the Dark Side, felt that our seven year old son definitely needed this one as well.
The helmet is made of two pieces of black plastic, one that is basically the mask covering your face and the other that my children call the "hair" which is the top and back of the helmet. The mask is adjustable to fit both children and adults. Put the two pieces together and put it on your head and you will look like Darth Vader from the neck up.
Looking like Darth Vader is not enough for you? Hanging down from the front of the mask by two thick, flat black pieces of material is a five inch square chestplate with buttons that allows the user to sound like Lord Vader. There are nine buttons on the chestplate, but most do nothing and do not even move. By pressing one button you will hear the heavy, deep breathing that Vader is known for and by pressing another button, you will hear him say one of the following things:
Your powers are weak.
There is no escape.
The Force is with you.
You don't know the power of the Dark Side.
Don't make me destroy you.
If those sayings are not enough, press another button and speak into the microphone inside the mask near the mouth mask and your voice will sound somewhat like Darth Vader's. The microphone is adjustable, but with my children constantly putting it on and taking it off, we do not really worry about where the microphone is, unless we cannot hear their voices. The sounds work with the use of three "AA" batteries, which are included.
On the bottom of the chestplate is a switch that can be moved to the numbers one, two or three. Supposedly this changes the pitch of your voice when speaking into the microphone, but we have found no discernable difference in the various settings.
The Darth Vader Voice Changer Mask is recommended for ages 5 and up and children younger than that might find it too heavy for their heads or have difficulty navigating while wearing it. The plastic eyes of the mask have almost a smokey tint to them, are are not crystal clear so that I do not allow my children to walk up or down steps while wearing it for fear that they will not be able to gauge where they are going.
Though the eyes may not be perfect, there should be no worries about breathing while wearing this mask. There are plenty of air holes around the mouth and under the chin of the mask, and though it can be adjusted to fit snugly around the scalp, it is not snug around the neck even for an adult.
The plastic material that the mask, helmet and chestplate are made out of are fairly sturdy, as ours has been dropped on various floors and kicked by children, and has shown no real signs of wear and tear.
OurStar Wars Darth Vader Voice Changer Mask is always out because somebody can be seen wearing it around our house just about every day. My son has decided that it is the perfect beginning for a complete Darth Vader Halloween costume. The only complaint my family has with this toy is that we only have one and that means that they have to share.
