| Staceys1's Full Review: Star Wars Mpire M-Bacca and Mace |
Star Wars is quickly taking over my home in the form of books, action figures, spacecraft, clothing and now in partyware as we prepare for a themed birthday party for my eight year old son. To me, most of the items blend together into one massive space blur, but one set of figures we have stand out because they are just so cute. These figures are not movie replicas, but rather part of the "Chocolate MPire" created by Hasbro and M&M's candy.
There are eight figures in the first series, and the two in this set are M-Bacca (Chewbacca) and Mace (Mace Windu). M&M candies, both plain and peanut, are dressed to look like Star Wars characters, and even have facial expressions similar to their movie counterparts.
M-Bacca is a yellow peanut M&M candy made to look like Chewbacca. He has brown boots made to look as if they are hairy and a very long brown plastic wig. He has a puzzled look on his face and he holds a staff in one hand.
He is accompanied by a blue M&M candy dressed as Mace Windu, with a tan cloak, black boots, white gloves and a purple light saber held, ready for action, above his head.
Chewbacca is about two and a half inches tall, and Mace Windu is slightly shorter. Each can stand on their own, or for the collector, they can stand on one of the two oval stands provided. A peg on the stand gets inserted into a hold in the figure's foot, and they do stay securely on the stand. Unfortunately, the figure does cover some of the wording on the stand, which reads "The Star Wars Mpire."
These plastic toys have no removable parts (other than their bases) and cannot be posed. They do not do anything at all but stand there, but they do look adorable standing on a shelf, but they are durable enough for children to play with. My daughter, when she can tear herself away from Barbie, Kelly and Polly Pocket, will occasionally play with our M&M Mpire figures, but we really purchased them for display rather than play.
Some true Star Wars fans may not appreciate having M&M candies dressed up as characters from the movies, but the fans that know personally have remarked that the facial expressions and stances of the candies are very similar to those of their human counterparts, making them even more endearing. Children, of course, think that these are great since they are no small pieces to worry about, unlike other Star Wars figures that we have where we constantly have to find tiny light sabers and guns on the floor.
Star Wars Mpire M-Bacca & Mace are recommended for ages four and up. At a cost of about seven dollars per set, one set is the perfect small gift, or accompaniment to a larger gift, or get all four sets so that the recipient has all eight M&M/Star Wars characters.
There are currently four two-packs available in the Star Wars Mpire series:
- M-Peror and M-Anakin
- M-Grievous & M-Obi [Wan Kenobi]
- M-Trooper & M-Vader
- M-Bacca & Mace [Windu]
