| Staceys1's Full Review: Star Wars Mpire M-Peror and M-Anakin |
I am quickly finding out that most of the people I know fall into one of two categories right now - those who have to own anything and everything Star Wars related and those who would prefer never to see another Star Wars related item again. My children and husband fall into the former category and I never know what new Star Wars products will be coming into our home.
Recently, on a trip to the toy store supposedly to purchase a birthday gift for a friend of my son's, we came across the Star Wars Mpire series of toys. I generally tune my family out when they start ogling the Star Wars display, but this time, I must admit, I thought these toys were some of the cutest ones I've seen.
There are four sets in the first series, each containing two figures. This Star Wars Mpire M-Peror & M-Anakin set comes with an orange M&M candy dressed as Emperor Palpatine and a red M&M candy dressed as Anakin Skywalker. Obviously these are quite different from your run of the mill Star Wars action figures.
Emperor Palpatine, a/k/a Orange, is dressed in a black hooded cloak with a cane, with white gloves and white shoes sticking out of the cloak. A worrisome look is on his face. He can easily stand alone since the figure has a solid bottom.
Anakin, a/k/a Red, is dressed in black boots, brown pants and belt, brown tunic, one white glove and one black glove on the hand in which he holds a blue light saber. M-Anakin has a look of determination on his face, as he gets ready for battle. This figure can stand by itself, but it does tip over more easily than some of the other figures since its feet are separate and he is slightly top heavy.
M-Peror is just under two inches tall and M-Anakin is about two and three quarters inches tall, including the light saber held above his head. Each comes with with an oval stand, measuring three inches long with "The Star Wars MPire" logo and a red M&M candy painted on it. A small peg on the stand fits into a hole in the bottom of the figure.
These figures are recommended for ages four and up. There are no movable or removable parts (other than the stands) and one of our characters found its ways into a one year old's clutches (and probably mouth) and it was no worse for the wear. Standing together on a shelf, all eight of our M&M Mpire characters make quite a scene, though my daughter will occasionally ask to play with them.
The Star Wars fanatics that I know all think that the Star Wars Mpire M-Peror & M-Anakin, along with the other candies in this line, are a colorful twist on the characters from the movie. I would venture to guess though that some Star Wars traditionalists would not like their strong and powerful characters portrayed by colorful pieces of candy.
I am not sure who the target audience is for the M&M M-Pire line of toys. Children love to play with them because they stand by themselves and the light sabers and other adornments do not come off, but adult Star Wars fans are drawn to them as well since they make nice display pieces.
There are currently four two-packs available in the Star Wars Mpire series:
- M-Peror [Palpatine] & M-Anakin [Skywalker]
- M-Grievous & M-Obi [Wan Kenobi]
-M-Trooper & M-Vader
-M-Bacca & Mace [Windu]
