what a brilliant idea... brew coffee into a container that will keep it hot, but won't burn it. most coffee makers have a hot plate under the carafe. this one doesn't. the carafe is a thermos which keeps it hot. so long in fact that one time i set it to make coffee in the morning but i forgot about it. at lunch time i realized it had brewed and it was still very warm, about 4 hours later! by the way that programmability feature is excellent. it has a digital clock readout with soft touch rubberized buttons.
the best feature of this machine is its removable water tank. easy to fill, easy to clean, and it has a visible marker on the right side so you can see how full it is.
the carafe itself is very stylish. i have no problems brewing and then putting it on the dinner table, serving directly from it. it's not hot to the touch but keeps the coffee hot.
one draw-back is that this machine is very tall, 15 inches i believe. it may fit under your cabinets, but good luck trying to fill it under there. hence the convenience of the removable water tank. mine is black which is nice but it also now comes in white... good luck keeping the coffee stains off that one. :))
