| apatheticdragn's Full Review: Starbucks Starbucks Aroma Thermal Brewer |
When you start the morning with a 19 month old boy and a new one on the way soon, a kickstart to the morning is always in order! I can think of no better way to deliver it than with my Starbucks Aroma Brewer. Now, as a former store manager for Starbucks, I might be a little biased but, just for the record, I haven't worked there in a couple years. This is a nice machine. It brews 8 cups of coffee quickly, has a handy clock on the base with a timer so you can wake up to hot coffee in the morning, the design is sleek and my favourite is that you can pour a cup of coffee before it has finished brewing!
The Barista Aroma comes in a black colour with a silver stainless steel carafe. It has a black lid with a button on top, one press closes the carafe so you can't pour, the other opens it for pouring. The clock/timer is located on the base of the Aroma along with the buttons to set it. The buttons are sleek with the base so that coffee grounds and assorted counter debris does not get stuck in any cracks. It takes a cone filter (either permanent or paper) and the water resevoir handily removes for ease of filling. I brew on average four cups of coffee from it a day and have used it for about 3 years (since they came out) and have never had it overflow, or break in any way. If I can't wait for the coffee to finish brewing before I pour a cup, I can simply pull the carafe out of it's base and pour a cup, reinsert the carafe correctly and it will finish brewing!
Some have complained of having to "season" the coffee pot. I have never seasoned it, I dump any leftover coffee out every morning and brew. My stainless carafe is now stained wit coffee, but I feel this seasons the coffee for me. However, there is a product out there (UrnX- maybe i spelled it incorrectly) which will clean your stainless coffeepot.
There is only one con I can think of and that is that the coffee will not stay hot for more than maybe 3 hours. I have tried keeping the pour spout closed and this has not made a difference. After about 3 hours, the coffee is lukewarm. It doesn't bother me too much, I am not one for sipping coffee, I usually down it before my son can (he likes the substance as much as I do!) so I like that it cools quickly so Trevor won't spill it and burn himself and that it is the perfect drinking temp for me! And I definitely prefer lukewarm coffee 3 hours old to scalding hot burnt 3 hour old coffee.
So all in all, this is a nice coffee pot. It's not overly expensive, is easy to use, looks sleek on my countertop and brews a nice pot of sweet caffeinated bliss for this mom who needs a jumpstart in the morning!
