With a starrett rule, you not only have an accurate measurement basis, you got a defacto standard of measurement second to none. You can test all yer obscure and cheapo brand measuring devices against it and toss the ones that ain't correct.
The protractor head will find a plethora of uses that you never dreamed of.
The centre finding head is of utility to turners, and occasionaly for finding 45's. but most of mine are tucked away in drawers, as are most of my friends.
The precision of the measure, the precision of the angle, to the wwer are only just beginning to become common knowledge. A metalworker likely has at least two of these in his drawers. He knows the value of them already.
Not a cheap tool but a good one. Just go to the starrett website and suck up a tad of American machinists history and pride in the product.
