The Bottom Line: Like I said, a new format. "Short", sweet, and to the point. Try not to spend much time on the computer anyways, hope you guys enjoy it.
Truth be told, I originally once owned the PS2 version of State of Emergency (SoE), but as with most owners, returned it almost immediately. However, when Rockstar tweaked SoE for the Xbox port, and sold it at the low, low price of 20 dollars, I decided to give it one more chance to impress me. However, in the end, it only failed to disappointment me again.
SoEs gameplay consists of controlling a one out of a small handful of colorful characters through populated areas mall, china town, the city, etc.) and performing given tasks. Some of these tasks ask that you play the role of a hit man, or play body guard. They start off easy, but soon get either complex or tedious. Reason being is because while youre given a large amount of weapons to go on a killing rampage, but wait a minute, you can only kill a certain group of people and spare the innocent even though they are the ones running towards you (in crowds) while you wielding a rocket launcher. Pffft! Please.
SoEs saving grace for the Xbox version is the multiplayer modes. Dont expect any co-operative modes or what not, these are basically the kill or be killed modes where you and 3 of your friends can take part in. I particularly enjoyed being able to recruit ordinary, every day citizens for being part of my gang and its when you and 2-3 other gangs come to face off with 50 gang members behind each and every one of you go off, that the game shines. Its as if it recreates the climax scene in Gangs of New York.
However, in the end, I wont go on saying I would expect more with Rockstars time spent on this game considering it only costs 20 dollars for a new copy. I dont even blame Rockstar for spending time on a game they know no one will particularly enjoy. So for beat-em-up fanatics, while this game easily falls into this genre, there are many more better games to experience then SoE, trust me.
