The unknown. How much of a risk-taker, dare devil, thrill seeker will the Duckling family be? Well, it was a vacation and we are bringing the two boys, also Mrs. Duckling likes to be pampered a bit, and rustic is not in her vocabulary. So we were looking for a
* A suite hotel
* One with breakfast being available.
* We are coming from the north, so a pool is a necessity, to play pool football.
* A refrigerator is a must. With two boys, their sodas and snack must be chilled along with the night time adult fermented malt beverages for Mr and Mrs D.
* Close to shopping of sorts, to be able to reload snacks, sodas, and the adult fermented malt carbonated beverages at a reasonable price.
We added up our wish list factors and via Expedia.com, got a great rate for the Staybridge Suites DFW Airport North, located in Irving, Texas. We were pleased with the $90 per night rate.
The Staybridge Suites is a new property, the DFW standing for the Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Being in North Irving really makes no difference to us, as it was centrally located for our trips into Dallas and to Fort Worth. The hotel is located on Market Place, and within a walk-even a drive was major shopping and restaurants, enough for anyone means and can save you some money off of convenience store and hotel prices. It is great on a budget minded vacation. Restaurant selections were great, we ate at a Boston's, and the stores were Kohl's Department Store for Texas sweatshirts and Wal+Mart for our groceries and snacks.
The check in was easy, the confirmation accepted, the front desk personnel always friendly and helpful. In fact, the entire staff was friendly, helpful, and offered suggestions. Great staff! Parking around the hotel was plentiful and safe. We had booked a double bed room and the rate was $90. Going on line to their site, the price was $109, so Expedia save us $20 a night. Truthfully, the $109 price would be a bargain. Staybridge Suites is part of the iChoice, Priority Club chain.
Our room was very good, we booked a two room, one bedroom and bath, and had three beds, including a sleeper sofa in the living room. The two beds were comfortable, the pull-out bed fine for MBDuckling and the only problem, was the light in the bathroom had the exhaust fan attached, making noisy trips to the bath at all times of night. The property included and each suite offers:
Fully-equipped kitchen Full-size refrigerator with ice maker Microwave oven Cooktop stove Toaster & coffeemaker Dishwasher Iron & ironing board Free high-speed Internet access – both wired and wireless We used everything, including the wireless for our laptop. Everything was brand-new and worked well. We also used: * The business center, offering free PC use and laser printers, along with some local reference materials.
* A small but practical fitness center, with some aerobic and weight machines.
We did not use the self-serve laundry nor the complimentary Tue,Wed, Thr Managers Reception, offering beer and wine early evening. They call it a Sundowner Reception and on Wednesday evenings, the hotel has a special bar-b-que outside for guests. We missed all of that. Sounds nice if you are on an extended stay, that many of the guests I visited with were.
The breakfast was fine, especially for the boys. Cereal, bagels, donuts were served, along with fruit, juices, milk, and excellent Wolfgang Puck coffee. I am a huge Starbucks fan and truthfully, the Wolfgang Puck coffee was very, very good. For hot breakfast food, ready to serve eggs, sausage, omelets. and waffles were available. If you care to marvel at my consistency, every morning I had a waffle with syrup, craisins, and nuts. With my WP coffee and cranberry juice, I had a great start to a great day! There was always plenty of room, never rushed. One of the negatives was the pool. It is a beautiful, nice sized pool, plenty of room but not heated! It was freezing and not available for us. The hot tub jacuzzi was great and we did jump in the pool to cool off. George Constanza does not know the meaning of shrinkage until he dipped in the SBS DFW pool. The other negative was one of the two elevators was out of order and never fixed during our four night, five day stay. The boys also made use of a small basketball court, with one hoop during the stay, a nice diversion.
The Staybridge Suites is part of the iChoice Hospitality Group that includes the Intercontinental Hotels, Holiday Inn, and Crowne Plaza hotels, and if this was any indication, Staybridge Suites will fit the brand name fine. Staybridge Suites also have an efficiency suite, along with a two bedroom, two bathroom suite. For extended stays, rates are negotiable. With the great staff, nice breakfast, excellent room amenities, I will recommend Staybridge Suites DFW Airport North highly!

About Me: The boys have Mommy's good looks. There's a resemblance between me and cat. Poor Kitty!
