| michellabella's Full Review: Stearns & Foster Sherrington Mattress |
My husband and I purchased a King size SpringAir mattress from JCPenneys in Jan of 2000 .... it had a 10 year warranty on it so when it collapsed in on itself less than 2 years later we asked for a refund. Well that process was a nightmare and I will write on that in a different area...
Finally we were able to shop for a new bed. I knew I wanted something that had a good warranty and was of good quality. Also after sleeping on the floor for 2 months (JCPenney's came and picked their defective mattress back up but took 2 months to refund my 1500$ back) I began to realize how important a good night's sleep was.
We laid on several different beds in several different stores. I even took of my shoes, brought a cuddle blanket and tried to get as cozy as possible to try and decide which bed felt the best. I wanted something slightly firm, but no too firm. I wanted to feel like I was floating in a cloud.
After testing out several beds I rationalized with myself that I couldn't spend the money on the S&F Shearington. I settled for a run of the mill Sealy Posturopedic. The salesman at Mattress Firm told me that if I wasn't 100% happy in 90 days to call them and they would come and get the mattress and I could upgrade to a mattress of my liking.
They delivered the mattress (Queen) and we slept on it the first night...or actually tried to sleep on it the first night. It slept boxey, we were too close. It wasn't like sleeping in a cloud and that is what I wanted.
Next day I went back into the store and purchased the S&F Shearington. It was delivered immediately. I had to negotiate them down on the price and they threw in a free headboard and footboard. I still think I paid more than most of the other writers on this mattress ..oh well it is worth it.
It is a slightly firm mattress with a plush pillowtop. The mattress itself is cream colored. It is very elegant looking. It has cloth handles , 2 on each of the 4 sides for ease of flipping it. It also has air ventilation holes so that the mattress can breathe. I am a hot sleeper and this mattress is very cool. When two people are sleeping on the bed and one person moves it doesn't move the other side of the bed at all. I like this because I move around a lot and now I don't have to worry about waking my husband up.
We purchased a stain guard to be put on the mattress that is supposed to repel stains. The warranty for this mattress is 20 years as opposed to most mattresses being 10. The only catch is that the mattress can't have any stains on it. Well having kids and being a normal married couple, this is hard. We typically put two mattress pads on our beds and still something seems to spill through. I had surgery last week (after having mattress for less than a week) and a cup of hot tea spilled. It was cleaned up immediately but the fabric of the mattress seems to hold stains instead of repel them. Supposedly the company will come out and steam clean it for free. I have called them but they haven't called back yet.
Overall, I am 100% pleased with the way that this bed sleeps. I am confident from other writers that the quality is what the sales people told me it would be.
I don't think that what I paid was too much for the quality of sleep that we get.
I am not 100% happy with the stain protection I paid an additional 79$ for.
I gave this a 4 for ease of use. This is a king bed and it is heavy. I am very strong and I can flip this. If someone was feeble this would be impossible to flip.
