| doctor00's Full Review: Step2 Fire Engine Toddler Bed |
This wonderful theme bed was the trick to getting my son to sleep alone in his own big boy bed. We went to the store and showed him his choices for a bed and he climbed right into this Step2 Fire Engine Toddler Bed which went for 150.00 + taxes. We cruised home with it balanced on our car roof and managed to heave it up to the second floor bedroom. It was easy to assemble however my son was so excited to 'help' he kept moving the parts around. His baby crib mattress slid right in on top of the beam support and over the 4 flat inner tops of the wheels. My son is an active boy even while he sleeps so my biggest concern was side rails. This bed has high sides basically all around it except for where the engine's doors would be located. The engine front is shaped like a real cab with 2 square portholes for a windshield and molded side 'mirrors' covered with fun cartoon stickers. The entire rear and sides are raised with molded fire engine props like : tools, boots and dials. I think these high sides create a cozy feeling to sleep in similar to a crib. All surfaces are smooth and slightly textured. He has jumped on this bed even though I have told him not to. He even jumps off the top front and back part. After a whole year this bed is still in fine shape with no buckling. All parts are made of durable thick plastic. The bed is heavy enough that my son cannot move it himself but it is smooth bottomed enough that i can slide it across the carpet when i want to move it. I expect this bed will suffice for a number of years and by then he will move into a regular mattress bed. He won't need to be convinced to sleep alone then. Believe me when I say we tried everything to get him to sleep on his own. He would keep waking up and walking out to find us. Bottom line is that My son loves his big boy bed ! He climbs in and out by himself and finally stays in his own room ! I have a peace of mind knowing he is safe snuggled up in his Step2 Fire Engine Toddler Bed !
Update 2005: The bed is still holding up perfectly despite my son jumping on it all the time. He still loves it and should last him another year or more. He loves to play tent by throwing a blanket over the top and hiding under the front windshield part.
