About Me: CONCENTRATE on a more productive New Year. Heres to 2012 !

Stir, Pour, Stir and voila, bittersweet !

Written: Jan 19 '10 (Updated Jan 19 '10)
Pros:high fiber content, dissolves super fast in cold n hot
Cons:bitter after-taste with staying power, but HEALTHY for diabetics
The Bottom Line:

A sweet tooth can be satisfied, even if diabetic, with all-natural leaf STEVIA plant extract that is okay but nothing miraculous !

Is it Sweet ? Yes.

Is it a good and tasty sweet ? No, not really and a little bitter after taste that stays with ya, but on with the review.

I am not impressed with this 'new' raw type of monosaccharide (a single sugar molecule) derived from a genus of several combined shrubs and bushes native to subtropical and southern Tropical areas of South America and Central America. However, I am recommending it because for diabetics, which are a huge number of people afflicted with this condition, deserve sugary stuff also. This is good for them as no glycemic index is listed.

This particular brand that SweetLeaf and Stevia Supreme by Stevita is called Stevia rebaudiana. It is known more commercially as sweetleaf, sweet leaf, sugarleaf, or simply stevia. Widely grown for its sweet leaves this sugar substitute is okay.

In my herbal green tea blends, it works alright although I strongly prefer honey. We are out of the bees best spit production so I opted for this small sample package laying on the counter. Now its roughly 7:30 in the evening, breakfast food was consumed three hours ago and most people I know don’t put sugar on their eggs; now almost five hours later at tea-time, I need sweetener. Herbal teas don’t go well with cream, they curdle, so CoffeeMate Creamer was not an option.

Therefore, there I was staring at this sea-green package that can be ripped open to see and test the contents within. Well in went my moistened finger to stir up some of this finely-powdered white stuff. Okay, brought to lips, tasted with tongue and wow did my mouth do an expression a baby might at vegetables ! Wow, metallic artificial (although totally natural folks grown and cultivated without due addition to soil or preparation) bittersweet residue came to mind but this stuff serves a different kind of sweetness.

It is a longer lasting, bitter kind of disgusting that’s it. That’s the word I am looking for, although natural, not satisfying to someone who really likes sugar, but can’t have refined processed and chlorine bleached white sugar.

So what is left ? Aspartame ? NOT it is full of chemicals I can’t even pronounce. Then there is the cancer-causing but were still not sure and use it anyway, Equal. Of course there is natural honey but some cannot digest the mass protein and nutrient-rich propolis that is good for many, danger for some.

I am thank ful there is still an abundance of raw beige to brown sugar cane found and harvested from countries like India or Bolivia where the sugar gained is earth friendly and very tasty. No after-taste which seemingly is quite apparent with Stevia Supreme Natural Sugar that has now been improved.
Gosh I wonder what it tasted like before. Anyway, for diabetics and those who still want sweet and no calories, this is it !

Claims on package:

Zero calories. All natural. Zero net carbs. Zero Glycemic Index (very important for the diabetic community) and for me, I like this one:
ZERO CHEMICALS !

INGREDIENTS:

Inulin Fiber (F.O.S. )-- is a fructooligosaccharide ( double of a disaccharide and easier to digest I imagine due to its very fine consistency and high water solubility. It is available in both organic and non-organic forms. (Curious if non-organic also means synthetic, anybody know ?) Anyway, the high water solubility means it dissolves extremely fast in both hot and cold beverages and will probably absorb quickly by the digestive tract and organs so it is relieved of almost immediately. You can’t gain poundage off of something that just does not stick around in your system.

So this is a rather good thing . . . But I still cannot get over the taste !

Anyway the next ingredient is good ole Stevia leaf extract. As I mentioned before there are various shrubs and bushes of the genus plant that are picked, dried, combined into one harvest process and preparation to deliver this finely white crystal sand-looking pebblett to your coffee, tea, milk in your cereal, cinnamon mix for your French toast etc.

DIRECTIONS:
1 packet contains .035 ounces or 1grams worth.

Due to the high fiber content of Stevia Supreme Natural Sweetener this product (which is not nutritionally listed in grams or %’s) please stir liquid first, then pour product in, and continue to stir. it’s a Stir, Pour, Stir three step process to sweeten as good as Aspartame but without the full-blown chemicals. For about $2.oo less than confectioners or processed white sugar, go ahead and buy some if you don’t mind a bitter to your sweetness . . .

Thank you for reading and

Enjoy !
