Pros: Moisturizing, lovely shades. Good texture on the matte end.
Cons: Flimsy packaging gets banged up quickly. Lipsticks are too skinny!
The Bottom Line: A couple of the colors are so gorgeous that I might fork over full price for them.

| zzJulia's Full Review: Stila Convertible Lip Color |
I am more of a lipgloss gal, but sometimes only a liberal application of lipstick can achieve that powerful lip look. Stila's Convertible Lip Color offers a moist and color rich application, along with 2 different types of finish.
What's the Deal with Stila, Anyway?
Stila's selling power is all in the packaging. Their flimsy recycled cardboard palettes and tubes are decorated with slender girls and liberally laced with pink. In a word, frivolous!
The Tube Lip Duo
The convertible lip color is packaged in a thick fuschia paper tube, with little flower applique designs all over it. Each end of the tube has a cover you can pull off to get to the lipstick. On one side there is a velvety, deep finish and on the other end is a very sheer, smooth version of the same hue.
The colors are:
Garnet Bloom
Damask Bloom
Currant Bloom
Mauve Bloom
Pink Bloom
Crimson Bloom
Claret Bloom
Ginger Bloom
Thanks to user-Madyl, I'm presently a bit obsessed with them and in one short week, managed to snatch 3 of these of ebay for excellent prices. I now own Currant Bloom, Garnet Bloom and Mauve Bloom. All three are lovely and have good blue undertones. The Currant is just gorgeous and I admit that I like the matte end more than the sheer end, which is surprising to me.
Raves for the vivid Garnet Bloom matte side. The red is a true-blue red, which makes my teeth look brighter and yet doesn't seem to clash with my tan skin. It's a stunning shade and the one red that every girl should own! The sheer is very lovely but with much more of a muted effect.
Application & Wear
The lipsticks are incredibly skinny. Madyl warned me about breakage (*gasp*) so I'm careful to extend them very little before applying. The Garnet is so much pigment that I apply it with a lip brush. The red is a shade I wouldn't wear every day to work so it's not in my purse and can be saved for special occasion wear.
The sheers, like most sheers, do not last very long. To be honest, I'm less impressed with the sheer end. They are a nice, if very temporary look, but here I think the Clinique Moisture Sheers perform better. For example, Clinique's Ruby Kiss goes on a bit nicer than Stila's Garnet sheer end.
The mattes don't last as long as the MAC lipsticks do either. However, the texture is really nice and my lips feel moist despite having a matte finish.
Removal was incredibly easy--even with the matte color. I was concerned that with the rich color that my lips would stain and removal would be tougher. Nope, a little dab of balm and every bit came right off with a wipe of the tissue.
It seems to wear off fairly evenly, and doesn't leave too much of an embarrasing outline of color around your lipline.
Ingredients: ricinus communis (castor) seed oil, glyceryl triacetyl ricinoleate, talc, isopropyl palmitate, beeswax (cera alba), hydrogenated lanolin, ozokerite, isopropyl myristate, squalane, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, copernicia cerifera (carnauba) wax silica, lanolin, synthetic beeswax, oleyl alcohol, propylparaben, iron oxides
Where to Buy?
The pricing is truly outrageous. It's $24, whereas a single Stila lippie is actually $14. You don't get as much product as you would think. Thank goodness for eBay. I was able to land them for between $11 and $14 each. That made it worthwhile for me. Otherwise, if your shade is not available, you can get them at Sephora.com or Gloss.com. Stila cosmetics has launched their own stores in some malls too and their counters are often available at major department stores like Nordstrom.
