Cons:I found nothing in the book to be disappointing
The Bottom Line: I was/am intrigued by the character of Chris Donatti and the interaction between him, Decker and Rina is terrific!
Stone Kiss is Faye Kellerman's latest Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus novel and it was worth the wait! For those of you who have not read her books before these are the main characters:

Peter Decker the veteran Los Angeles Detective who married on the spur of the moment, divorced and lead a casual relationship life-style until a case introduced him to
Rina Lazaruswidowed mother of two young boys and extremely dedicated to the Jewish world and religion.
Peter a lapsed Jew, re-commits to his religion and he and Rina marry forming a "Yours Mine and Ours Family" with Peter's daughter from his first marriage, Cindy, who lives on her own, Sammy and Jacob, Rina's two boys from her first marriage and Hannah Rosie, their child by each other.
In this novel we get a real look into Peter's background with his biological family who have recently come into his life. Called to New York by his half-brother Jonathan to help solve the murder of Ephraim (Jonathan's brother-in-law) and disappearance of Jonathan's niece, Peter is soon dragged into the dark side of drug dealing, pimping and murder. This time, however, he is on his own in a city where he has no back-up. Upon his and Rina's arrival in New York Peter is quickly shunned by the family because of his questions and their religious intolerance of his new found faith. But Peter is determined to see if he can save his niece Shayndie.
Ephraim is found naked, murdered execute style in a hotel room and his teenage niece is missing. In his search for Shanydie, Lt. Decker is re-united with a character from Kellerman's book "Justice", one Christopher Donatti, the adopted son of NYC's top crime boss. Peter and Chris share a history in that Peter ruined Chris' relationship with the love of his life Terry, who also makes an appearance in the book. Decker also freed Donatti from jail when he found out of his innocence thereby conflicting Chris to feeling hatred and debt. Desperate for help, when Decker learns that the style of Ephraim's execution is the same as Chris' style and knowing Donatti takes in young girls from the street to pimp and use for porn, Decker realizes he must approach Donatti for help.
However, Donatti is psychotic and obsessed with Rina. While he saves Rina from a bullet meant to scare Decker off, he tries to lure her into his clutches. Chris is also holding all the cards with Peter as he shows him he has Shayndie and will not release her until he has certain answers since the girl begs not to be returned home. When Shayndie is found dead in a New Jersey park after Chris' promise to keep her safe, Peter is on his own.
Alone, he must find out who murdered the young girl and figure out the motive behind Ephraim's death knowing that this will lead to the murderers of both. With crooked cops, drug dealer's and his own family working against him, Peter's life is in danger. When he and Chris come face to face after Donatti massacre's an entire warehouse full of the suspects we are left to see how Chris, who blames Peter for his losing Terri, will exact his revenge. It is a chilling chapter and look into the mind of this crazy psycho.
This book was well though out, carefully researched and written as all Kellerman's novels are. She gives us a wonderful insight into many of the customs which are followed in the Jewish faith and you can learn quite a lot from her books. The plot was a strong, believable one and not some half-baked story.
The inter-action between Donatti and Rina is amazing with each telling the other of the childhood abuse that occurred in their respective families and the fact that Rina looks after a mobster's physical and mental wellbeing.
The surprise ending was totally unexpected to me and I won't ruin it for you.
