Pros: My first custom-fit bowling ball for personal use
Cons: I'm having a bit of trouble using fingertipped (beginner).
The Bottom Line: A good beginner's bowling ball. People unfamiliar with fingertipped balls should limit their practice to 3 games a day.

| imprimis2's Full Review: Storm Hot Flame Bowling Ball |
I'm an amateur bowler, well, perhaps a beginner even. My scores have ranged (in the past year or so) from 79 all the way up to 192. Originally I threw a straight ball, and while I seemed fairly comfortable with doing so, something was missing. That "hook" everyone was talking about intrigued me. How was it possible? Well, come to find out I needed a dull ball in order to help me learn to throw that "hook" or "curve" ball. So, I go to the pro shop at the bowling alley and find a ball suited for me. The guy helped me figure out what I needed, and the Storm Flame was my ultimate decision.
As of right now, I am bowling with a WIDE range of scoring. Since I'm not used to fingertipped bowling balls, it made the conditions to bowl very uncomfortable for me. The first game with this ball, I bowled a measly 80, however, remember this was my first EVER game with a fingertipped ball. Next game, I scored an impressive 175. Odd to jump 95 points in one game, eh? I don't think its the ball, but rather I'm having a difficult time getting used to this new "area" in my bowling game.
The Storm Flame Ball is a dull surfaced ball, while the Reactive version is glossy. Even though my ball is dull, it is still fairly attractive. The color you get will vary, mine is red and purple to dark purple, some are orange and red. The box the ball came in was pretty durable (cardboard, what do you expect? lol). A nice hurricane design was on the outside, and while the box probably won't be used more than once, it's still nice to look at.
I have only bowled at one alley in my whole bowling experience, so I am not sure what lane conditions are the most favorable.
Here are some technical details on the ball I purchased that will be helpful to you in making a purchase decision:
Factory Finish---1000 Grit Sanded
Radius of Gyration---2.674 (High)
Differential---.018 (Low)
Flare Potential---2 Inches (Low)
Hook Potential--10/7 Dull/Shiny on Storm's scale of 1 to 20
Length---7 on a scale of 1 to 10
Backend---3 on a scale of 1 to 10
Coverstock---Curelyon Reactive
Weight Block--Traditional 3 Piece Core
Color---Red/Purple 2-Color Coverstock
D-Scale---76 to 78
Now, this is based on the weight of my ball, so they may not be the same with other weights (I'm not a big techie when it comes to bowling). Mine is a 12 pound ball. Also, when you purchase your Storm Flame ball, you will get a red card inside of the box, with all of this information relayed contained on it.
Also, a graph is shown on my card:
OIL LENGTH Long { } { } { }
Medium {o} { } { }
Short {o} {o} { }
OIL VOLUME
I'm not real sure what this is for, but it is probably pertaining to the lane conditions and the reaction on the ball. I hope you can decipher it.
There are also symbols on your ball which will give you specific info about it. They are:
o = Major Pin
* = Center of Gravity (CG), on the ball its actually a hurricane shape.
PAP = Positive Axis Point
O with X inside of it = Balance Hole
----- = Ball Track
I hope to do well with this ball, as I'm still getting used to everything. Wish me luck guys, and hope that one day I'll be able to reach 200! (Here's to wishing! LOL)
