Pros: Great roll very easy to predict it's break point
Cons: Because it's pearlized to much oil isn't good
The Bottom Line: Buy this one, heck buy two...Great results from a very good ball made by Storm.

| paulv's Full Review: Storm Core Power HRG |
Storm products have become my favorite. Those of you have read any of my past reviews know I've switched from FABALL(HAMMERS) to Storm when FABALL sold to Ebonite. Which is one of my least favorite manufacturers. The Core Power HRG is among the best Storm has to offer.
Here's what this ball is spec wise. The core/weight block has three different densities. The main core is a large round core inside of that is a much higher density sphere. On top of the outer core is a higher density cap block. This combination creates a high rate of revolutions, a high flare potential and a high hook potential. The combination core also produces a very heavy roll and a very even break point with some angle. The roll and angle gives the bowler mistake room because this ball will rarely over react. That's good news for players like me who tend to miss our target areas right and left and then start praying for a lucky break. So, the core, overall is big, rolls heavy, hits hard and is very forgiving.
The cover stock is Storms ever popular Pro-Thane LT Plus Pearl. What does all that mean? It is particle technology which give this ball added traction on the lane. This also helps stabilize the roll and reaction of this big block. The pearl part is where there are good a bad things involved. The pearlization is to give this ball a longer skid and with the the surface factory finished at 1500 grit (very shinny) the skid through the front of the lane is very good. The down side is if there is any carry down of lane conditioner, the Core Power might slide through the break point and go into the pocket weakly. The dreaded pocket split or a nasty washout could and will occur.
Drilling techniques for this ball are Storms standards. Once you have drilled Core Power you instantly make it a lane condition oriented ball which does limit the versatility. That's not say all the drillings are good for just one lane condition but you won't be able to use this ball every game, every time you bowl. The best bowlers can change the reaction of the Core Power with changing hand positions and moving in and out of the oil. The Core Power is very sensitive to dry areas of the lane. Dry creates friction and this ball wants to start hooking when if finds a dry spot. If the dry spot is down the lane that's good, if it is in the front or middle of the lane you could be in for a long set. The pearlized cover stock will help as the lanes dry up and moving inside where you generally find more oil will help you keep this ball in your hands longer. Buy two and drill them at the opposite ends of the hook scale and now you have enough range to cover all house lane conditions but it still might not be enough for a a tougher tournament lane condition. As always don't be afraid to change balls to stay competitive.
Storm has a very good ball in the Core Power. I would recommend it to anyone but the novice. Unless they can afford the 200 plus dollar price tag. I think it's worth every penny. Try not to buy on-line, you might not get the ball you were hoping for. More and more I see balls coming to my shop that just can't be drilled for specific reactions. Many of the on-line stores don't care about the top weights and pin to cg ratios and you might get stuck with a ball that wasn't good enough to sell to a pro shop. Balls like this are sold in bulk at much lower costs and all to often bowlers get sucked into name recognition at a reduced price. You think you're getting a deal and you wind up with a piece of junk. Buyer beware.
Always go to a professional for drilling and be sure they know what reaction you are looking for. Different drillings react differently for each bowler's style, make sure the person who is drilling for you knows what you want and how you roll the ball. Otherwise you can be disappointed.
Buy the Core Power and STORM your competition! Oh, this ball is scented, it smells like licorice. When the smell starts to fade clean the cover stock. The lane conditioners block the pores and the over all reaction will decrease making this ball weak. All resin and particle balls need to kept as clean as possible to get the most out of them.
