| kcfoxy's Full Review: Stouffer's Lean Cuisine Cafe Glazed Chicken Classi... |
At work, with a 30 minute meal break, we're either going to have something cold or something easily zapped in the microwave. And with an average cooking/cooling time of 10 minutes most frozen entrees or light meals can leave a semi-leisurely 15 minutes of ingesting and 5 minutes of transit time there and back...to your work station I mean!
Stouffer's Lean Cuisine Cafe Glazed Chicken Classis with French Cut Geen Beans
One of my all-time favorite Lean Cuisine light meals was a nice portion of baked white fish decorated with piped mashed potatoes and a colorful juliene of celery and carrots. I can no longer find this in my Safeway freezer case, so when sales abound, I will load up on my second favorite, this slightly sweet and savory pick. No Hungryman meal, at 8.5 ounces you are getting spa portions of approximately 4 ounces of mildly seasoned but well-trimmed chicken tenderloins, perhaps a half cup of enriched long-grained white rice and wild rice blend and a couple spoonfuls of those long, thin French cut green beans dotted with a few slices of button mushrooms. The glazed portion of this dish's name refers to a high fructose corn syrup sauce...like catnip to this diabetic's sweet tooth but not terribly high in either calories or carbs. The nutrition damage is quite slight: Calories: 220 Total fat: 3.5 grams Trans fat: 0.0 grams Cholesterol: 40 mg Sodium: 510 mg Carbohydrates: 25 gm Protein: 20 gm
For those counting, this light lunch weighs in at 5 WightWatcher points, and the carbo count is surprisingly low while the sodium at 21% of RDA is much lower than most. The 20 gm of protein is well over 33% of the ~reference~ human's daily requirement, and high enough to keep this lady's blood sugar on an even keel until my next break time. The taste is very nice, with slight nuances of onion, garlic, paprika and perhaps thyme and white pepper in the mix. The chicken is flavorful, tender and moist, and in our low power budget cheapie lunch room microwave this meal takes 5.5 minutes to nuke on High setting, with a couple strategic slits in the clear cello overlay, and about 2 minutes to cool down enough to remove, stir and eat.
Final Thoughts And Recommendation
This is not a full meal for most adults, but with a salad and fruit this is nice, light fare. At work I'll bring a cup of sliced strawberries, mangos or peaches sprinkled with a bit of Splenda for dessert, for about 300 calories total and am satisfied for the 4 to 5 hours until my next small diabetic meal.
Overall I am impressed with Stouffer's Lean Cuisine quality control, the modest sodium content and adequate protein for my dietary needs. The taste is better than average, 4 out of 5 stars, and especially when on sale, as it often is in our local supermarkets. 2 thumbs up and a nod to our dearly departed Epinions cornerstone, Barbara, who would have loved the inclusion of anything French :)
