Pros: small, light, bright light for small dark places
Cons: Not your everyday outside flashlight
The Bottom Line: I would say that this light definitely serves it purpose. You need to know what you’re going to use the light for and know what the Flashlight Pen is intended.
emcphers's Full Review: Streamlight Stylus Flashlight Pen
Specifics Streamlight has been making lights for many years. I had seen a guy using one here at work one day and thought to myself, “I just must have me one of those”.
The Streamlight Stylus Flashlight Pen has:
- 100,000 HR “Solid-State” LED that never needs replacing - Visable from over a mile away - Limited lifetime warranty - Momentary ‘blink’ or constant ‘on’ switching - Aircraft aluminum casing - Ideal for tactical use - Versatile pocket/clothing clip - Individual serial numbers - Includes Glare Guard
My Experience
I ordered 10 pens for myself and my associates at work. My first surprise was the price. $12.50 a piece was a real shock to me. I’ve purchased Streamlight products before and normally they are not very cheap. I was really impressed with the price; well maybe, let’s see how they work first.
It is a typical one LED light. The light is bright and really enables you to see detailed things up close. You have a push button on the end of the pen that powers the LED or you can twist the cap on the end of the pen for a ‘steady’ state, or on all the time.
The pen is a little longer than a normal ink pen, about 6 ¼” long. It does fit comfortably in a shirt pocket and is easily accessible. It also weighs just a little more than a normal ink pen, but not heavy enough to weight down your shirt pocket.
The clip that is supplied with the pen is tight and attaches firmly to your pocket or clothes and keeps the Streamlight Stylus Flashlight Pen securely in place.
Each pen did in fact have its own serial number written on the pen to make it a little easier to keep track of them.
The ‘Glare Guard’ that comes with the pen is more or less a pen cap with the end cut out. I would have said that it more served the purpose of tightening up the light beam instead of reducing glare. It helped pinpoint the light a little better.
The light has 3 ‘AAAA’ alkaline batteries inside that can be replaced. A few people that I’ve talked to that have been using them for a while now say that the LED usually goes well before the batteries. But at $12.50 a piece, that’s not that big of a problem.
Who needs this light?
This light is really good if you are in a dark environment and need to see detailed things up close. I’ve used mine to look inside of dark holes such as pumps, piping, etc.
My wife really liked it to throw in her purse and use for different things in the car after dark.
The light is very bright and serves just about any purpose as long as you’re pretty close to the object.
Final Conclusion
I would say that this light definitely serves it purpose. You definitely need to know what you’re going to use the light for and know what the Streamlight Stylus Flashlight Pen is intended. It’s not your everyday flashlight to be carried around in the middle of the night, but it definitely has served my purpose of having a light handy to see into tight dark places.
